Where to Stay in Rayong: Ban Phe, Klaeng Coast, City

Rayong is an eastern province on the Gulf of Thailand, and most visitors want one of two things: a beach on the mainland, or the boat from Ban Phe to Koh Samet. Where you sleep decides how your first morning goes. A stay at Ban Phe puts you beside the piers, the beaches further east along Pae Klaeng Kram Road are quieter, and a hotel in Rayong city suits a cheap stop or an early start. This page compares four areas and 9 hotels.

How to choose

1. Start with the plan, not the room. If your day starts with the Koh Samet boat, stay near Ban Phe: Rayong Resort says its address is in Phe Sub-District and that it arranges a transfer to Ban Phe fishing village, and Souan Son Beach Resort says it is near Ban Phe, alongside Mae Ramphueng Beach. If you want a beach with more room around you, the Klaeng coast has Novotel Rayong Rim Pae Resort and Rayong Chalet in Chak Phong, and Maepim Resort, Mercure Rayong Lomtalay and Bari Lamai at Laem Mae Phim.
2. Check the hotel's own page for the room type you want. Novotel says six of its villas stand across the road from the main building, Rayong Chalet describes a communal pool, and Souan Son Beach's rentals page is in French and marks its rates as indicative. Bari Lamai's room pages are marked copyright 2011, so confirm the details with the hotel.
3. Ask about events. Novotel's home page mentions a ballroom for up to 360 guests, and Rayong Chalet and Maepim both advertise meeting rooms for up to 200 people. If you want a quiet weekend, ask whether a big event is booked on your dates.

Rayong Resort calls itself a beachfront hotel, gives an address in Phe Sub-District, says it arranges a transfer to Ban Phe fishing village and lists a speedboat trip to Samet Island. Souan Son Beach Resort says it is near Ban Phe, alongside Mae Ramphueng Beach, with rooms, bungalows and apartments in a tropical garden and a large pool; its rentals page is in French.

Choose it if: You want to be near the Koh Samet boats and the town's seafood shops.

Skip it if: You want the quietest bay or a big resort with many restaurants.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume the transfer or speedboat is included; ask the hotel what it costs and when it runs.

Two hotels here, both with addresses in Chak Phong on Phe-Klaeng-Kram Road. Novotel Rayong Rim Pae Resort calls itself a 4-star resort on a tranquil beach, says it has 185 rooms including six villas across the road, and names three restaurants. Rayong Chalet Hotel and Resort says it is on the beach with 50 hotel-style rooms and 43 villas and describes a communal pool.

Choose it if: You want a beach resort with a pool and your own space for a few days.

Skip it if: You want to be within walking distance of the Ban Phe piers.

Mistake to avoid: Do not book without asking about events; both pages advertise meeting space.

Maepim Resort Hotel says it is right on Mae Pim beach, lists an outdoor garden pool, a restaurant, free Wi-Fi and a breakfast buffet from 6 to 10 am, and also advertises meetings for up to 200 people. Bari Lamai Resort gives an address on the Laem Mae Phim beach road and lists beachfront villa and deluxe rooms, but its room pages are marked copyright 2011.

Choose it if: You want a smaller beach stay away from the pier area.

Skip it if: You want a big resort with many facilities or a hotel with a recently updated website.

Mistake to avoid: Do not book Bari Lamai from its old room pages alone; confirm the rooms by phone or email.

Rayong is reached from Bangkok by bus, van, taxi or train. On 16 October 2026 the 12Go page for an 18 October search for 2 travellers listed 312 trips, among them 98 buses from THB 200, a train from THB 220 and a van from THB 336, plus bus tickets from Ekkamai to Ban Phe Pier and bus-and-ferry tickets to Nadan Pier on Koh Samet. These figures are what the page showed that day, not a promise. Check the arrival point, the operator and the last departure before you book. • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
• Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
• If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
• Distances along the coast are longer than they look on a map. Wikivoyage says the road from Ban Phe runs along the sea to Laem Mae Phim, 24 km away, with Suan Son pine forest about 2 km east of Ban Phe. Ask the hotel how long the drive from your arrival point takes, and check whether a taxi or songthaew can reach it.
• Rough seas matter if the boat is your plan. The Department of National Parks, quoted in our Koh Samet guide, describes the monsoon from May to September as the period with strong waves, and Souan Son Beach describes April to October as a quieter, greener time. Read the Koh Samet guide before you book boat-dependent days.
