Chanthaburi is the eastern Thai province known for gems, fruit orchards and an old riverside quarter, and it also has a string of quiet beaches about 30 km from town and a mountain edge towards Soi Dao. This page covers hotels in five areas: the old town and centre, Laem Sing beach, Chao Lao beach, the Kung Wiman coast and the Soi Dao highlands.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Several well-known Chanthaburi hotels have no readable official site, so this is a checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Decide what the stay is for. If it is the old riverside quarter, the cathedral and the gem market, stay in town; two hotels here sit among or beside the Chanthaboon waterfront community. If it is a beach, plan a car or taxi, because the beach hotels give their own figures of about 30 km from town.
  2. Match the area to the season. Wikipedia describes a short dry season from December to February and a wet season from April to October, and the fruit season that HOP INN's own page gives as around May to July falls in the wet months. Check the forecast for your dates.
  3. Do not plan on the Cambodian border. The UK FCDO says land borders and crossings between Thailand and Cambodia remain suspended, and it advises against all but essential travel within 20 km of the border; we checked this on 16 October 2026. Our Chanthaburi guide explains the nearest ground.

Five hotels here: Baan Luang Rajamaitri (a 10-room heritage house among the Chanthaboon riverside community), USABAI Riverside Boutique Hotel (riverfront rooms), HOP INN Chanthaburi (budget, near the park and the waterfront), Maneechan Resort (70 rooms, free EV tuk-tuk shuttle) and New Travellodge Hotel (140 rooms in the business district). Wikivoyage says the cathedral is the largest in Thailand and that the old city is walkable, though it suggests renting a motorbike to go further.

Choose it if: You want to walk the riverside, see the cathedral and the markets, and treat the beaches as a day out.

Skip it if: You want sand and swimming at the door.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume every town hotel is on the riverside; Maneechan says it runs a free shuttle to the waterfront, so check the walking distance on the map.

Nisasiri Boutique Resort says its seafood restaurant stands on the beach a few steps from the rooms and lists kayaking, beach cycling and squid-fishing boat trips. Wikivoyage describes Khao Laem Sing as a small hill 172 m high east of the mouth of the Chanthaburi River.

Choose it if: You want a quiet beach house and are happy to drive into town for the old quarter.

Skip it if: You want to walk to the cathedral, the markets or nightlife.

Mistake to avoid: Do not treat 30 km as a short hop; plan transport for evenings and for the gem market.

Two hotels here. Sand Dunes Chaolao Beach Resort says it has 185 rooms, each with a private balcony, a large outdoor pool and event venues for up to 1,000 people. Chaolao Cabana Resort calls Chao Lao the best-known beach in the province and offers hotel rooms and villa-style houses near the sea. Wikivoyage says Chao Lao has several hotels and bungalows, and that glass-bottomed boats are available.

Choose it if: You want a family beach resort with a pool and are travelling by car.

It lists rooms from a 30 sq m Superior to a 60 sq m Grand Deluxe Pool Villa with a living room and private pool. Day trips and planning from Chanthaburi

We have no registered tour listing for Chanthaburi yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Chanthaburi, which currently earns us nothing, and results may be limited. Several hotels here run their own activities, so ask your hotel first.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Chanthaburi

Chanthaburi has long-distance buses and vans from Bangkok. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Chanthaburi page, which on 16 October 2026 was titled bus, van, flight and taxi, listed operators including AEC 168, Bangkok Airways, Cherdchai Tour East, Easyride, Gosafe, Kanokwan, Kim Transfers, Kohchang Bangkok Transport, MCC Van, Mitdee, Tara Tour and Travel and Torch, and showed 149 departures a day, the earliest at 5:00 AM and the latest at 4:20 PM, with a page distance of 300 km (Wikivoyage says 245 km). We do not quote fares. Check the arrival point and the last departure before you book. Our Chanthaburi guide covers the town and the sights.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Hotels in the beach and highland areas are far apart. Laemsing Natural Beach Resort gives 30 km from town and Soidao Goodview Resort gives about 30 km from Khao Soi Dao Wildlife Sanctuary, so ask your hotel for the driving time from where you will arrive, not only the distance.
  • Several hotel sites on this page are in Thai first, and some footers are old, such as a 2020 copyright on Peggy's Cove Resort. Confirm current rooms, rates and policies by phone or message before you book a non-refundable room.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Chanthaburi?

For the old town, the cathedral and the gem market, stay in town. Baan Luang Rajamaitri and USABAI Riverside Boutique Hotel both describe themselves as on the Chanthaboon riverside, and Maneechan Resort says a free EV tuk-tuk runs to the riverside and the Night Gem Market. For a beach, look at Laem Sing or Chao Lao.

Is it better to stay in town or at the beach?

It depends on the trip. The beaches are about 30 km from town on the hotels' own figures, so a beach stay means a car or taxi into town. A town stay puts you near the waterfront, the cathedral and the markets, with the beaches as a day out.

Which beach is best?

We cannot rank them. Wikivoyage lists Khung Wiman, Khung Kraben, Laem Sadet and Chao Lao beaches in Tha Mai district and says accommodation is concentrated at Chao Lao, with several hotels and bungalows. Chao Lao resorts here are Sand Dunes and Chaolao Cabana; Laem Sing has Laemsing Natural Beach and Nisasiri.

Is the Cambodian border open?

No. The UK FCDO says land borders and crossings between Thailand and Cambodia remain suspended and advises against all but essential travel within 20 km of the border. We checked this on 16 October 2026. Check an official source such as your embassy or the FCDO page before any plan that involves the border.

When is durian and fruit season?

HOP INN Chanthaburi's own page says the ideal time to visit fruit orchards is from around May to July, which is also a wet-season period. Fruit seasons vary by year and orchard, so ask your hotel.

Is the Chatrium golf course open?

The hotel's own page lists enhancement work from March to October 2026: holes 1 to 9 open from 11 March to 31 May, the course closed from 1 June to 24 July, holes 10 to 18 open from 25 July to 30 October, and the full 18 holes from 1 November 2026. Confirm with the resort before you book.

Why are some well-known Chanthaburi hotels not listed?

We only list hotels whose own website we could open and quote. Several sell only through booking sites or Facebook pages, a few sites would not open for us, and one site showed spam instead of hotel text, so we left them out rather than guess.

Do I need a car?

For the beaches and the highlands, almost certainly: the distances given by the hotels are about 30 km. In town, Maneechan Resort offers a free EV tuk-tuk and bus-terminal pickup by its own pages, but most other hotels do not say. Ask before you book.
