Quick answer: where to stay in Hat Yai?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Hat Yai is a big, flat, car-and-taxi city rather than a walking resort town, so where you sleep decides how easy it is to reach the night markets, the shopping malls and the airport. The Habita's own location page puts Hat Yai almost 950 km from Bangkok and about 30 km from the Malaysian border, which is why many guests arrive from Malaysia and Singapore as well as from the rest of Thailand. This guide splits the city into six practical bases and lists 14 hotels whose facts were read on their own websites.

Use the quick answer, then the area table. We show no prices because rates change by date and room, and the booking buttons open a search with your own dates. We have not stayed at these hotels. Every fact on a card links to the hotel's page and carries the date it was checked, 16 October 2026. One hotel (Laguna Grand) is actually in Phawong on the way to Songkhla and is included so you can compare it with a city base.

How to choose

  1. Decide how you will move around. Distances in Hat Yai are in kilometres, not minutes on foot, and hotels quote their own figures. A hotel that is 'steps from' one mall can be a drive from the markets you came for, so open the exact map pin.
  2. Match the area to your plan: markets and food (downtown or the Kim Yong side), shopping and cinemas (Central Festival side), a quieter pool stay with a car (Kho Hong), a very early or very late flight (next to the airport), or a lake-and-old-town trip (Phawong).
  3. Compare the final rate with tax, breakfast, parking and cancellation terms. If you travel with a group or a car, check parking and room-capacity wording on the hotel's own page.

Taxi or app; Monkham lists the airport within 20 minutes and Centara 25 minutes

Four of the hotels we checked sit in the central grid. The Habita lists the Lee Garden and Central department store area at 0.6 km, The Three is on Nipat Uthit 3 Road, Monkham is on Rajyindee Road about 2.2 km from the city by its own wording, and Centara is on Sanehanusorn Road attached to CentralFestival Hat Yai. We use downtown as the group of hotels that state those central addresses.

Choose it if: You want food and market streets close, and will accept city traffic.

Skip it if: You want a quiet room or an easy drive-in with parking space; ask each hotel about parking.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume 'downtown' means the same walk to every market; check the pin and the distance each hotel lists.

Hat Yai Airport's page on the Airports of Thailand site lists ground transport from the arrivals area, and the airport is about 9 km east of the city centre. The button opens the 12Go Hat Yai to Bangkok page for buses, trains and flights to the capital; check the departure point and the time before you book. Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Hat Yai Airport lists its own ground transport on the Airports of Thailand page: airport vans from the arrivals area, minibuses into town and car rental on the first floor. Fares and hours on that page can change, so read the current page; it also advises allowing at least 2 hours before a flight. See the Hat Yai to Bangkok guide (Thai) for onward options and the Hat Yai travel guide.
  • If you plan to continue to the islands or Andaman coast, compare Surat Thani, Phuket and Krabi hubs, and the best time to visit Thailand by region before you fix dates. Confirm entry rules on the Thailand entry requirements page if you arrive from abroad.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Hat Yai?

Most first-timers pick the downtown area around Lee Gardens and Nipat Uthit Road, or the Kim Yong Market side, because the markets, malls and many restaurants are close together. Check the map pin of any hotel, since each lists its own distances.

Is Hat Yai walkable?

Parts of it are, but the city is spread out. Hotels quote distances of 0.6 km to the Lee Garden area (The Habita) up to 11 km to the town centre (The Signature Hotel Airport). Plan on taxis or an app for longer legs.

Which hotel is closest to Hat Yai Airport?

Among the hotels we checked, The Signature Hotel Airport lists the airport at about 300 m. Most others are 20 to 30 minutes away by the figures on their own sites.

Is there a hotel attached to a shopping mall?

Centara Hotel Hat Yai says it is attached to CentralFestival Hat Yai. Z Sleep Hotel says it is steps from Central Hatyai.

Which Hat Yai hotel has halal-certified dining?

Hatyai Paradise Hotel & Resort describes a halal-certified restaurant on its own site. It does not name the certifying body on its home page, so ask the hotel if you need that detail.

Where can I stay near the Kim Yong Market?

HOP INN Hat Yai Downtown lists Kimyong Market among nearby places and B2 Hat Yai Rat Uthit lists it at 1.3 km. Check the pin to see the exact walk.

Is Laguna Grand in Hat Yai?

No. Its own address is in Phawong, Songkhla, and it says it is 30 minutes from Hat Yai International Airport and 10 minutes from the heritage city of Songkhla. It is a lakeside option rather than a city base.

How far is Hat Yai from Bangkok?

The Habita's location page says almost 950 km. Flights, trains and buses are compared in our Hat Yai to Bangkok guide, currently in Thai.

Do I need a car in Hat Yai?

Not in the centre, where taxis and ride-hailing apps are common, but the Kho Hong and airport areas are easier with a car or a pre-arranged transfer. Hatyai Signature lists a free shuttle at 11:00 and 14:00 to Kim Yong Market and Central Festival.

Why is Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel not listed?

Its own website was an unfinished template when we checked on 16 October 2026, so we could not verify facts from it. We leave it out rather than guess.
