Quick answer: where to stay in Koh Samet?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Koh Samet has one road of about 6 km, three piers and a string of bays, so the bay you pick decides which pier you arrive at and how you reach your room. The park page names Ao Luk Yon, Hat Sai Kaew, Ao Wong Duean and Ao Phrao among its beaches, and the island's piers are on the head of the island, on Ao Wong Duean in the east and on Ao Phrao in the west.

Use the quick answer above, then the table to compare bays. We show no prices because rates change with dates and room type: open the live rate link with your own dates. Every hotel card comes from the hotel's own website, and we have not stayed at these hotels, so ask the hotel which pier and boat it uses before you book.

How to choose

  1. Decide whether you want a bay with several stays to compare, or a secluded bay reached by a boat the hotel arranges.
  2. Open the hotel's own transport page and note the pier, the boat times and where cars are left, because cars are not allowed on the island.
  3. Compare the final rate with tax, breakfast, boat transfers and cancellation terms, and ask whether the hotel is open and boats are running on your dates.

Day trips and planning from Koh Samet

We have no registered tour listing for Koh Samet yet, so we show no tour prices. These guides cover the main day trips, and the button opens Klook's own site, which currently earns us nothing.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Koh Samet

Koh Samet is reached by boat from Ban Phe on the mainland, and Samed Resorts says cars are not allowed on the island. The Klook link opens transfer options for Koh Samet; check the pier, the boat times and the last boat with your hotel before you book. The Bangkok guide covers the airport side, and the Ekkamai bus terminal is in the city.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Park entry: the DNP notice of 2 June 2022 puts Khao Laem Ya - Mu Ko Samet in group 2, with foreign adults at 200 baht and children at 100 baht, and Thai adults at 40 baht and children at 20 baht. This is the latest DNP page we found (checked 16 October 2026), so confirm at the ticket booth and keep your park card with you.
  • A DNP news item dated 29 January 2023 says foreigners pay an extra 100 baht per person at the special-fee islands Koh Talu, Koh Kudi and Koh Kham-Koh Kruai. That is the position as of January 2023, so check the current fee before a boat trip there.
  • Samed Resorts says plastic bags and foam are not allowed on the island, so pack accordingly.
  • Check the Thai Meteorological Department forecast before you travel and ask your hotel whether boats are running.

FAQ

Which bay is best for a first stay on Koh Samet?

We do not rank bays, because it depends on how you want to travel. If you want several hotels to compare, look at Ao Wong Duean or Ao Phai first. If you want a secluded beach reached by boat, look at Ao Kiu. Open each hotel's transport page before you choose.

How do I get to Koh Samet?

You cross from Ban Phe on the mainland. The DNP page says there are 3 passenger piers at Ban Phe, boats seat 10 to 100 people, the crossing takes about 30 minutes and service runs 06:00-17:00. Some hotels run their own boats, so confirm the pier and times with your hotel.

Can I bring a car to Koh Samet?

No. Samed Resorts says cars are not allowed on Koh Samet, and guests can leave a car at the resort's Ao Prao pier parking on the mainland.

Which pier will I arrive at?

The DNP page says the island has 3 piers: the head of the island (Na Dan), Ao Wong Duean in the east and Ao Phrao in the west. It adds that some resorts in small bays use their own speedboats from Ban Phe, so ask your hotel.

How do I get around the island?

The DNP page says the island has a single road, about 6 km long. Its news item of 29 January 2023 names a songthaew club and a motorbike-taxi club among the operator groups. Ao Prao Resort says its guests can rent a motorbike near Na Dan pier and that the hotel does not provide rentals. We do not quote fares, so ask the hotel or the driver first.

Which airport is closest?

Ao Prao Resort says the nearest airport to Koh Samet is U-Tapao, about 45 km from Ban Phe. Check with your airline whether it flies there.

Is there an entrance fee?

Yes. The DNP notice of 2 June 2022 lists Khao Laem Ya - Mu Ko Samet in group 2: foreign adults 200 baht and children 100 baht, Thai adults 40 baht and children 20 baht. It is the latest DNP news page we found, so confirm at the ticket booth. The DNP open-data fee list updated 2 June 2023 (read 2026-10-16) repeats these rates and lists THB 300 / 150 for foreign adults / children at Koh Thalu, Koh Kudi, Koh Kham and Koh Kruai. DNP also asks visitors to carry their park service card.

When are the seas roughest?

DNP says the monsoon runs from May to September and, on average, about 15 days a month have strong waves. It also says some days from December to March can have monsoon wind and heavy rain that stop boats. TMD says the northeast monsoon replaces the rainy season around mid-October, with the start 1 to 2 weeks early or late.

Are there resorts that need a late arrival plan?

Boat times matter. The Ao Prao Resort site gives fixed shuttle times from Ao Prao pier and asks guests to wait there 30 minutes before the boat leaves, and The C Samet gives crossing times of 40 minutes by big boat or 20 minutes by speedboat. Ask your hotel for the last boat before you book.
