Trat is the mainland province of eastern Thailand that sits behind Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Koh Kood. Most visitors only pass through it, but the mainland has its own places to sleep: an old town with a night market, a mangrove edge, the Laem Ngop piers, and a string of quiet beaches that run south-east towards Khlong Yai. This page covers only the mainland, in five areas. For hotels on the islands, use our Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Koh Kood stay guides.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. We could not find a readable official site for several well-known Trat hotels, so this is a checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Decide what the stay is for. If it is a night before an island, stay in Trat town or near Laem Ngop. If it is the mainland beach itself, look at Laem Klat or Mai Rut, but plan a car or transfer because both are 40 minutes or more from town on the hotels' own figures.
  2. Check which pier your boat uses. Koh Chang ferries use Ao Thammachat, Koh Kood and some Koh Mak boats use Laem Sok, and other Koh Mak speedboats use Krom Luang Chumphon pier. A Trat hotel's guide says Laem Ngop pier itself is mainly for fishing boats. Our Trat guide explains the piers.
  3. Do not plan on the Cambodian border. Thai-Cambodia land crossings have been suspended since 2025 per the UK FCDO, and a Trat hotel's own page says all land crossings are closed. Several hotel sites still describe Hat Lek as an easy day trip; ignore that until the crossing is reported open by an official source.

Songthaew or taxi to the piers; bus station in town

Five hotels here, from Trat 101 Hotel in the old town to Chivapuri Residence near the bus station, Baan Rim Nam on the Bang Phra canal, and Trat City Hotel and Avada Hotel on Sukhumvit Road. Trat 101 says its night market is within walking distance and that it arranges island transfers; its pier guides name the piers for each island. Wikivoyage lists Wat Buppharam, Soi Rai Rang night market and the Trat National Museum among the town's sights.

Choose it if: You want to walk to food and the bus station, and use Trat as a stop rather than a beach.

Skip it if: You want sand and swimming at the door.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume every town hotel is in the old town; two are on Sukhumvit Road, so check the walking distance on the map.

Short drive to the Koh Chang ferry; airport about 15 km by the hotel's figure

Lomtalay Resort Trat says it is beside the sea, 2 km from the Koh Chang ferry pier, 15 km from Trat airport and 24 km from Trat town, and pitches itself for a night before Koh Chang or Koh Mak. Its address is in Khlong Yai subdistrict of Laem Ngop district, which is not the Khlong Yai district near the border. A Trat hotel's pier guide says Laem Ngop pier itself is mainly for fishing boats.

Choose it if: You are catching the Koh Chang ferry early or arriving late, and want to sleep near it.

Skip it if: You want restaurants and a night market on foot.

Mistake to avoid: Do not confuse Khlong Yai subdistrict in Laem Ngop with Khlong Yai district; and confirm which pier is the 2 km one.

Mai Rut Beach Eco-Camp offers a sea-view suite, tents and a campsite on Banchuen beach.

Day trips and planning from Trat

We have no registered tour listing for Trat yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Trat, which currently earns us nothing, and results may be limited. Several hotels here sell their own island trips, so ask your hotel first.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Trat

Trat has an airport run by Bangkok Airways, long-distance buses and vans from Bangkok, and piers for the islands. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Trat page, which on 16 October 2026 listed 27 companies and 78 departures a day, the earliest at 5:00 AM and the latest at 4:15 PM. We do not quote its fares because the page showed two different 'from' figures. Check the arrival point, which pier you need and the last boat before you book. Our Trat guide covers the piers and the airport.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Mainland hotels vary a lot in how far they are from town. Mairood Resort's own pages give both 53 km and about 35 km from Trat, so ask the hotel for the driving time from the place you will arrive, not only the distance.
  • Several hotel sites on this page are in Thai first and some footers are dated 2023, so confirm current rooms, rates and policies by phone or message before you book a non-refundable room.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Trat?

For one night before an island, start with Trat town: Trat 101 Hotel describes a walk to the largest night market, and Chivapuri Residence says it is a 5-minute walk from the bus station. If you want to be near the Koh Chang ferry, look at Lomtalay Resort in Laem Ngop. For a mainland beach, look at Laem Klat or Mai Rut.

Do I need to stay in Trat town before Koh Chang or Koh Kood?

No. Many buses and vans go straight to the piers, but a late arrival can make a night on the mainland sensible. The ferry guides we read give last departures in the afternoon, so check the last boat of your day before you skip a night.

Which pier do I need?

It depends on the island. A Trat hotel's guides say Ko Kut Express, Boonsiri and Koh Kood Princess leave from Laem Sok pier, Koh Mak speedboats leave from Krom Luang Chumphon pier, and Laem Ngop pier is mainly for fishing boats. The Koh Chang ferry runs from Ao Thammachat; the same hotel's pages disagree about whether the Center Point pier next to it is still in service, so confirm on the day.

Is the Hat Lek border open?

No. The UK FCDO says land borders and crossings between Thailand and Cambodia remain suspended, and a Trat hotel's border-transfer page is headed 'All Land Border Crossings Closed.' We checked both on 16 October 2026. Hotels that still advertise border trips are out of date. Check an official source such as your embassy or the FCDO page before any plan that involves the border.

How far is Trat Airport from the hotels?

Hotel sites give different figures. Lomtalay Resort says 15 km, Chivapuri Residence says 36 km, and Centara Chaan Talay says a 60-minute drive. The airport is owned and operated by Bangkok Airways according to Wikipedia. Ask your hotel for the transfer time and price.

Can I bring a dog?

A few hotels say yes. Banpu Resort says it is pet-friendly, Mairood Resort welcomes four-legged pets, Mai Rut Beach Eco-Camp says it accommodates pets, and Centara Chaan Talay says it welcomes dogs under 20 kg. Confirm the rules and any fee with the hotel.

Why are some well-known Trat hotels not listed?

We only list hotels whose own website we could open and quote. Several Trat hotels sell only through booking sites or Facebook pages, and a few sites would not open for us, so we left them out rather than guess.

Do prices include the boat or the transfer?

Not unless the hotel says so. Some hotels sell their own island trips and transfers, and one resort says its snorkelling boat collects guests at the resort. Ask what is included before you pay.
