Quick answer: where to stay in Samut Songkhram?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Samut Songkhram is Thailand's smallest province by area, and almost every visit is built around two places: the Amphawa floating market and the Maeklong railway market. Where you sleep decides how you meet them. In the Amphawa lanes you walk to the market and share it with the weekend crowd; on the river or in Mae Klong town you are quieter but need a short ride. This page compares four areas: the Amphawa market lanes, the Mae Klong riverside between Amphawa and Bang Noi, Mae Klong town and Tai Hat, and the quiet Bang Noi canal and Khlong Khon countryside.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Facts we could not re-find on the site were removed. Eight hotels passed, several of them small or older sites, so this is a checked list, not a complete one. We could not open the official site of Baan Amphawa Resort & Spa with our tools (it answered HTTP 406), so it is not listed.

How to choose

  1. Decide first whether you want the market at your door. TAT lists the Amphawa Floating Market as open Friday to Sunday, 10.00 a.m. to 8.30 p.m., and Wikivoyage says the lanes are at their best around 15:00 and that Amphawa hotels sell out at weekends. In the lanes that means crowds and a lively evening; on weekdays most stalls are closed and the town is very quiet.
  2. Check the real distance to the market. Amphawa Nanon says 3 minutes on foot and Amphawa Riverview says 600 metres, but River CoCo, The Grace, Asita and Coco View give no walking time, and Baan Piman says about 5 km. Ask each hotel how guests reach the evening market and whether it runs a boat.
  3. Plan the railway market separately. The Maeklong market is in the provincial town, not in Amphawa, and the trains that pass through it change; Wikipedia and Wikivoyage give different daily counts, so check the State Railway of Thailand before you plan around a train time.

Amphawa Nanon says it is a 3-minute walk to the floating market, and Amphawa Riverview says it is 600 metres from the market and Rama II Park. TAT lists the market as open Friday to Sunday from 10.00 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Nanon has 36 rooms, a spa and a rooftop restaurant; Riverview describes river-facing rooms and an early alms-giving by boat. If you want to stay inside the evening crowd, this is the area.

Choose it if: You want to walk to the market, see it empty in the morning and not depend on a car.

Skip it if: You want a silent night on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Mistake to avoid: Do not arrive on a weekend without a booking; Wikivoyage warns Amphawa rooms sell out then and advises booking ahead.

Road to Amphawa, then a short ride

River CoCo says it sits between the Amphawa and Bang Noi floating markets and has 19 rooms on 4 rai, with houses for 6 and 10 guests. The Grace Amphawa says it is on the Mae Klong river, is pet friendly, has a pool open 07.00 to 21.00 and free bicycles, and gives a Ban Prok address in the Mueang district. Neither site gives a walking time to the market, so ask how guests get there.

Choose it if: You want a river garden, a pool or a house for a group, and you are fine with a short ride to the market.

Skip it if: You want to step out of the door into the market lane.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume you can walk to the evening market; neither site states a distance, so confirm with the hotel.

Coco View Hotel says it is on the Mae Klong canal on the Samut Songkhram-Bang Phae road, with a pool, a jacuzzi and a private port for boats to Amphawa. Asita Eco Resort has a Tai Hat address in the same Mueang district and offers Thai houses and villas with a private pool in front of each room. This is the base if the railway market and car trips matter more than walking the Amphawa lanes.

Choose it if: You want the railway market and the provincial town, with a pool, and you have a car or a transfer.

Skip it if: You want to wake up beside the Amphawa floating market.

Mistake to avoid: Do not pick Asita to walk to Amphawa; its address is in Tai Hat and the site gives no distance to the market.

Baan Piman says it is a homestay of 3 Thai houses on Bang Noi canal about 5 km from the Amphawa floating market, and does not allow pets. Boat rides and planning in Samut Songkhram

We have no registered tour listing for Samut Songkhram yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search, which currently earns us nothing. Boat rides to the fireflies and the canals are usually arranged through your hotel or at the pier, so ask your hotel first.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Samut Songkhram

Samut Songkhram is a short road trip from Bangkok. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Samut Songkhram page. When we looked in a real browser on 16 October 2026 (a search for Sunday 18 October, two travellers) it listed 36 trips, buses and taxis only, with no train, and a bus drop at the Maeklong market; fares and times change, so check the page for your own date. Our Samut Songkhram guide covers Amphawa, the railway market and the other ways to get there.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • TAT says visitors can arrange a boat trip to watch fireflies at night; Wikipedia says fireflies are usually seen in the rainy season. Boat rides are normally arranged through your hotel or at the pier, so ask what the price covers before you go.
  • Check early morning options too: TAT says Tha Kha Floating Market runs every five days on the 2nd, 7th and 12th day of the moon from about 6.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m., so a stay near Amphawa lets you see a market that is not on the weekend schedule.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Samut Songkhram?

If you want to walk to the Amphawa floating market, look at the Amphawa market lanes: Amphawa Nanon says 3 minutes on foot and Amphawa Riverview says 600 metres. If you prefer quiet and have a car or a boat, look at the Mae Klong riverside or Mae Klong town. The cards below show what each hotel says on its own site.

Is Amphawa busy on weekdays?

TAT lists the Amphawa Floating Market as open Friday to Sunday, 10.00 a.m. to 8.30 p.m., so on weekdays most market stalls are closed. Wikivoyage warns that hotels sell out at weekends and advises booking ahead; for a quiet visit, a weekday stay in the lanes is calmer.

How do I get to Samut Songkhram from Bangkok?

By road. When we looked at the 12Go Bangkok to Samut Songkhram page in a real browser on 16 October 2026 it showed 36 trips, buses from two operators and many taxis, with no train, and one bus drop at the Maeklong market. Wikivoyage says a Transport Company bus leaves the Southern Bus Terminal from 05:40 to 21:00. Check times and fares for your own date. See the Samut Songkhram guide for the full route.

Can I see the Maeklong railway market and Amphawa on one trip?

Yes by car or a short transfer, but they are in different places: Maeklong is in the provincial town and Amphawa is on a canal in Amphawa district. TAT lists Amphawa as open Friday to Sunday, and the train times at Maeklong change, so check the State Railway of Thailand.

Can I take a pet?

A few hotels say yes. The Grace Amphawa says it is a pet-friendly resort; Baan Piman says pets are not allowed in the rooms. Confirm the rules and any fee with the hotel.

Are the hotels near the market noisy?

We cannot measure noise. The hotels in the lanes are beside a weekend market that TAT says is packed on Friday to Sunday, so expect crowds in the evening; ask the hotel about rooms away from the lane.

Why is Baan Amphawa Resort & Spa not listed?

Its official site answered our fetch with HTTP 406 on 16 October 2026, so we could not check any facts. We did not use booking-site descriptions. Chuchai Buri Sri Amphawa and other well-known stays were also not listed because we found no official site we could verify.

Do the hotels include a boat to the market?

It depends. Coco View Hotel says guests can use its private port to reach Amphawa and the estuary by boat; The Grace Amphawa lists boat trips as a paid extra. Ask what is included and the timetable.
