Phetchaburi is a province on the Gulf of Thailand about 120 km from Bangkok by Wikivoyage's estimate, and where you sleep depends on what you came for. Most beach hotels are in Cha-am in the south, a quiet town beach that runs into the Hua Hin side. The coast to the north around Laem Phak Bia is salt fields, mangroves and shorebirds, and the western half of the province is the Kaeng Krachan forest. This page compares four areas and 9 hotels.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. No hotel in Phetchaburi town itself passed our check, so for the old town we only give area advice in the Phetchaburi guide. This is a checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Start with the plan, not the room. For a beach weekend, stay in Cha-am: five hotels here are in or near town. For a quiet resort on the Hua Hin side, look south of Cha-am. For shorebirds, salt fields and a salt spa, stay on the Ban Laem coast. For forest and birds in Kaeng Krachan National Park, stay at the forest edge.
  2. Check the hotel's own page for the room type you want. The Centara page lists an Ocean Suite for 4 adults and no children, Long Beach lists the beach as 2 minutes by car or 5 minutes on foot, and Veranda lists 15 room categories, so read the category you book.
  3. Ask about events and dates. The Regent promotes retreats and says three pools in one place and two pools in another, and the Methavalai home page still carries an offer dated 31 October 2021, so confirm rates and availability with the hotel.

Five hotels here. Bann Pantai says it faces Cha-Am Beach and has six villas and 24 rooms. The Regent Cha-Am has 442 rooms with a sea or garden balcony, and lists Peppina and Sakuna restaurants. Centara Life Cha-Am Beach Resort lists a Deluxe Pool Access room, an Ocean Suite and a seafood venue called Sands. Long Beach Cha-Am has a pool on the 3rd floor, a roof garden on the 11th and lists the beach as 2 minutes by car or 5 on foot. Methavalai says it is at the beachfront with 2 outdoor pools.

Choose it if: You want a beach town with shops and restaurants close by and a choice from boutique to large resort.

Skip it if: You want a very quiet coast or the old temple town on foot.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume every room has a sea view; Long Beach lists the beach as a short drive or walk away, so ask which rooms face the sea.

Two hotels here. Veranda Resort & Villas says its beachfront lies between Cha Am and Hua Hin, has 140 rooms in 15 categories and is about 25 km from Hua Hin town centre. Dusit Thani Hua Hin gives its address as 1349 Petchkasem Road, Cha-am, describes gardens, an ornamental lake and lily ponds, and lists a 75 square metre family suite.

Choose it if: You want a resort with big grounds, a pool and in-house activities, and you will drive or take a transfer to town.

Skip it if: You want to walk to the night market or the railway station.

Mistake to avoid: Do not expect Hua Hin to be next door: Veranda's own FAQ puts its resort about 25 km from the town centre.

One hotel here. i Tara Resort & Spa says it sits on Laem Phak Bia Beach, has 73 rooms with a view of the Gulf of Thailand, a salt spa, a Rabiang Nam restaurant and a swimming pool. Its home page lists the community seafood market, the blue crab bank and the mangrove forest at the Laem Phak Bia research centre as nearby sights. Wikipedia calls Laem Phak Bia a favoured location for bird-watchers.

Choose it if: You want a quiet coast, local seafood, shorebirds and a salt-based spa.

Skip it if: You want a busy beach strip with many shops and bars.

Mistake to avoid: Do not expect the Cha-am beach scene; the hotel says its beach is surrounded by mangroves, salt fields and fishing villages.

One hotel here. Baan Maka Nature Lodge says it is a few kilometres from Kaeng Krachan NP in five hectares of gardens, forest and farmland, with air-conditioned rooms and hot showers. Its facilities page lists three kayaks for its lake, a 1 km forest trail and breakfast from 5:30, and says guides are arranged only for guests staying at the lodge. Wikipedia says the park was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 26 July 2021.

Choose it if: You want forest, birds and an early start inside the park.

Skip it if: You want a beach, a pool resort or restaurants nearby.

Mistake to avoid: Do not expect a luxury resort; the rooms page says the included breakfast is basic, and cooked breakfasts cost extra.

Getting to Phetchaburi

Phetchaburi is reached from Bangkok by train, van, bus or taxi. On 16 October 2026 the 12Go page for an 18 October search listed 41 trips for 2 travellers, with trains (9 listed), vans (2 listed), a bus (1 listed) and taxis (29 listed); these figures are what the page showed that day, not a promise. Check the arrival point, the operator and the last departure before you book. Our Phetchaburi guide covers Khao Wang, the caves and Kaeng Krachan.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Cha-am and the old town are about 40 km apart, according to Wikivoyage, so a beach hotel is not a base for walking the old town's temples. Plan a car, a taxi or the train between them, and ask the hotel for the drive time from where you arrive.
  • Wikipedia says tourism has fallen in Phetchaburi because of coastal erosion, much of it in Cha-am district. Look at a recent photo of the beach in front of the hotel and ask which rooms face the sea before you pay for a sea view.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Phetchaburi?

For a beach, Cha-am: Bann Pantai says it faces Cha-Am Beach and the Regent, Centara Life, Long Beach and Methavalai are all in the same town. For forest and birds, Baan Maka near Kaeng Krachan. For the old town, we have no verified hotel, so read our Phetchaburi guide.

Is Cha-am the same as Hua Hin?

No. Cha-am is in Phetchaburi province and Hua Hin is in Prachuap Khiri Khan, but the two beaches run into each other. Veranda says its beachfront is between the towns of Cha Am and Hua Hin, and the Regent says it is 15 minutes from Hua Hin.

Which Phetchaburi hotels suit families?

Dusit Thani Hua Hin lists a 75 square metre family suite and a goat farm activity for children, the Regent lists a kids' club and Long Beach lists a 63 square metre family suite. Check the room type, since the Centara Ocean Suite lists no children.

Is there a quiet hotel away from the Cha-am strip?

i Tara Resort & Spa says its beach is surrounded by mangroves, salt fields and fishing villages on Laem Phak Bia. Bann Pantai is a boutique resort with six villas and 24 rooms, so it is smaller than the big resorts.

Where can I stay near Kaeng Krachan National Park?

Baan Maka Nature Lodge says it is a few kilometres from the park in five hectares of gardens, forest and farmland and lists kayaks on its lake. Its facilities page says it arranges guides only for guests staying at the lodge.

Do the hotel pages show prices?

Some do, but rates change with dates and room type, so we show none. The booking buttons on this page open a search for your own dates, and the hotel cards link each hotel's own website.

Do any of these hotels host big events?

The Regent promotes retreats and says it has more than 5,000 square metres of event venues, and Methavalai lists 5 function rooms. We have no verified noise data, so ask whether an event is booked on your dates.

How do I get to Phetchaburi from Bangkok?

On 16 October 2026 the 12Go page listed trains, vans, a bus and taxis for an 18 October search. Wikipedia also lists a weekend and holiday excursion train from Bangkok to Suan Son Pradiphat that stops at Phetchaburi and Cha-am. Check the operator and last departure before you book.
