Quick answer: where to stay on Koh Kood?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Koh Kood (Ko Kut) is the far-eastern island of Trat province, in the Gulf of Thailand. There is no airport on the island and no vehicle ferry, so every stay starts with a boat from Laem Sok pier on the mainland, and the beach you choose decides how far you are from the pier, the quiet bays and the few restaurants. This page compares four bays on the island's west side: Bang Bao Bay, Ao Ta Pao, Klong Chao Beach and the north-west around Klong Yai Kee and Klong Hin. A fifth group holds four resorts whose own sites do not name their beach.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these resorts. Every card shows facts taken from the resort's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Facts we could not re-find on the site were removed. We looked for more resorts, but some official sites would not open for us (see the FAQ), so this is a checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Start with the boat, not the beach. Boats leave Laem Sok pier on the mainland and, per a ferry guide, the last scheduled departures from November to May are at 16:00, so a late flight or bus can mean a night in Trat. Resorts on this page that run their own speedboat list a fixed daily time (one group site says 11:45), so ask which pier your resort uses and when its boat leaves.
  2. Pick a bay for the kind of stay you want. Bang Bao Bay is described by one resort as the calmest water on the island; Ao Ta Pao sits beside a working community pier; Klong Chao is described as the longest white-sand beach; the north-west has mangroves, a lagoon and a promontory with bay views.
  3. Plan for an island that is still basic. One resort says there is no real nightlife and the 24-hour electricity may not always be enough for the whole island, and two resorts advise bringing cash. Check the final rate with tax, transfers, cancellation terms and what is included, and check seasonal rules: one resort says dogs are allowed only from May to September, and boat services thin out in the rainy season.

Two resorts here place themselves in Bang Bao Bay. The Beach Natural says the bay has the calmest waters on the island and offers hill pool villas and a beach villa with breakfast included. Koh Kood Resort describes a crescent-shaped bay with air-conditioned bungalows, and says the air conditioning runs only between 17:30 and 06:00. This is the area to look at first for simple, calm-water stays.

Choose it if: You want gentle water for swimming and a quiet bay rather than a long beach strip.

Skip it if: You want a long beach to walk, or many restaurants close by.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume the hotel's own boat or pier suits your arrival time; confirm the pier and the last boat before you book.

Shantaa and Koh Kood Paradise Beach both say they sit beside the Ao Ta Pao pier. Shantaa describes it as a community pier used by passenger, freight and fishing boats, and also as a place where locals and visitors come to fish or watch the sunset. Shantaa has 25 rooms, two small beaches and a private canal; Koh Kood Paradise Beach says its grounds cover 8.7 acres and it has a children's pool.

Choose it if: You want a small resort with kayaks and a relaxed pace, and you do not mind a working pier next door.

Skip it if: You want silence at all hours or a beach with no boat traffic nearby.

Mistake to avoid: Do not expect a private, empty bay; the pier is part of the setting, and Shantaa itself suggests its north beach if the south beach feels too busy.

Peter Pan Resort describes Klong Chao Beach as the longest and most pristine stretch of white sand on Koh Kood, and High Season Pool Villa & Spa places itself on the same beach. High Season says its villas have private pools; Peter Pan lists 8 room types, a pool zone for Starfish Villa guests and one pet-friendly villa type. Peter Pan's site also points to the Klong Chao waterfall and a mangrove canal that runs from the waterfall to the beach.

Choose it if: You want a long beach, private-pool villas or a choice of villa types.

Skip it if: You want a village, many restaurants or nightlife; these are resorts, and the island has little of the latter.

Mistake to avoid: Do not treat 5-star or only claims as an independent rating; High Season uses that wording about itself.

A la Koh Kood gives a Klong Hin Beach address and describes overwater houses on the crystal-clear water of a mangrove lagoon, with the beach a few steps away; its FAQ says it can arrange transfers from Ao Salad Pier. Captain Hook Resort sits on a rocky promontory with views of Klong Yai Kee bay, which the site places on the western side of the island, and its accommodation page lists a house with a mangrove view and a villa with a private mini pool.

Choose it if: You want mangroves, a lagoon or a promontory view and a small, quiet stay.

Skip it if: You want a wide beach for long swims at every tide.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume the sea comes to your door at every tide; Captain Hook's page says Yai Kee Bay shows a wide sandy beach at low tide.

Tolani Resort Koh Kood, Ajinta Resort, Tinkerbell Resort and Wendy The Pool Resort do not name their beach in the pages we checked, so we have not placed them in a bay. Tolani describes a Polynesian-inspired 5-star resort whose shoreline changes with the tides. Ajinta lists 32 villas and 21 rooms and says its spa is closed for repair. Tinkerbell has 15 villa-style rooms, and Wendy The Pool says it has the largest pool on the island.

Day trips and planning on Koh Kood

We have no registered tour listing for Koh Kood yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Koh Kood, which currently earns us nothing, and the results may be limited. Many resorts here sell their own snorkelling and waterfall trips, so ask your resort first.

Getting to Koh Kood

Koh Kood has no airport and no vehicle ferry, so every route ends with a boat from Laem Sok pier near Trat. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Koh Kood page, which lists Boonsiri and Seudamgo trips and a joint van-and-ferry ticket; check the departure point, the boat time and the last boat of the day before you book. Our Koh Kood guide covers the pier, the buses and the flight to Trat.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Some resorts say activities depend on the weather. Ask your resort which trips are included in the rate and what happens if the sea is rough.
  • Pay attention to the low season: a ferry guide gives a separate low-season timetable (16 May to 15 October) and says speedboats are not used then. Confirm the boat time and the last boat of the day before you pay for a non-refundable room.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay on Koh Kood?

For calm water and simple bungalows, start with Bang Bao Bay. For a small resort with its own beaches, look at Ao Ta Pao. For a long white-sand beach with private-pool villas, look at Klong Chao. The cards below show what each resort says on its own site.

How do I get to Koh Kood?

By boat only. A ferry guide says there is no airport on the island and no vehicle ferry, and that four companies run boats from Laem Sok pier near Trat: Koh Kood Princess, Koh Kood Express, Seudamgo and Boonsiri. Laem Sok is reached by road from Bangkok or Trat. See the Koh Kood travel guide for the full route.

How long is the boat ride?

Sources differ. The ferry guide says the fastest catamaran does it in around 45 minutes, Shantaa says ferries and speedboats usually take about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on wind and tide, and The Beach Natural estimates 60 minutes. Plan for about an hour and check your operator.

What is the last boat to Koh Kood?

The ferry guide says that from November to May the last scheduled departures are at 16:00 and that boats stop running in the mid-afternoon even in high season. After that, it says the only option is a private speedboat. Times change by season, so confirm with the operator or your resort.

Is Koh Kood open in the rainy season?

Some resorts stay open and some do not. Koh Kood Resort says it has been able to keep its doors open all year, while one group site publishes separate green-season prices and a ferry guide says the boat service is thinner from May to October. Check each resort's own opening dates.

Are there ATMs and nightlife?

Shantaa says there is no real nightlife and no entertainment complex, and that local restaurants may not take cards, so bring cash. We could not verify ATM locations, so do not rely on finding one.

Can I bring a dog?

A few resorts say yes with conditions. A la Koh Kood allows dogs from May to September, The Beach Natural allows pets under set weights in selected rooms for direct bookings with an extra cleaning fee, and Peter Pan Resort lists one villa type that welcomes pets. Always confirm before you travel.

Why is Soneva Kiri not listed?

Soneva Kiri's old page on soneva.com redirects to another web address, kiriprivatereserve.com, which refused our connection on 16 October 2026, so we could not check any facts. A ferry guide does say the resort has a private airstrip on a nearby island. Away Koh Kood and Cham's House also have no working official site that we could open.

Do prices include the boat?

It depends on the resort. Some packages list a speedboat or ferry ticket as included, and a ferry guide says the transfer from the Koh Kood pier to your resort is included in the boat ticket price. Check what your rate covers.
