Sakon Nakhon is a temple town on the south-west bank of Nong Han lake, with the Phu Phan hills to the south-west and the Catholic village of Tha Rae nearby. This page lists the three hotels we could check against a live official website and sorts them by area, so you can see what each one actually says about itself.
Three is a short list on purpose. Many places in Sakon Nakhon, from the Phu Phan side to Tha Rae, have only a Facebook page or a booking-site listing, and we do not list those. The three cards below show facts taken from each hotel's own website and checked on 19 October 2026 in a separate verification pass, with the source linked. We show no prices, because the sites show none or we cannot verify them for your dates, and we have not stayed at any of these hotels. The booking buttons open a search for your own dates.
How to choose
- Decide whether you need the town centre or the hills. All three hotels here are in the city: Phu Sakon Ville and @SAKON Hotel in the centre, HOP INN near Wat Phra That Choeng Chum. Wikipedia puts Phu Phan National Park 25 km south-west of the town, and we found no hotel with its own website on the Phu Phan side or on the shore of Nong Han.
- Read distances as the hotels' own claims. HOP INN says Sakon Nakhon Airport is about 20 minutes away and recommends a car for visiting several places, and none of the three gives walking distances to the sights. Open the map pin before you book.
- Check the final rate with tax, cancellation and parking, and ask what the room includes. Phu Sakon Ville's house rules list fines and a pool closed from 22.00 to 07.00, and @SAKON Hotel's site footer is dated 2018, so confirm its details by phone.

- Drive or taxi; HOP INN says the airport is about 20 minutes from its own hotel, and Wikipedia puts the airport on the north side of the city
Two hotels on this list are here. Phu Sakon Ville Hotel gives an address on Nittayo Road, says it is in the centre of Sakon Nakhon in a quiet spot, and lists a swimming pool, 4 main room styles with 8 sub-types and a meeting room for up to 40 people. @SAKON Hotel gives an address on Kumuang Road, names Big C, Nevada, Expoplaza, a food market and Sakon Nakhon hospital as nearby, and lists air conditioning, a TV, a fridge, wifi and parking in every room. Neither site gives a walking distance to Wat Phra That Choeng Chum.
Choose it if: You want shops, markets and a pool or a plain room within a short ride of everything.
Skip it if: You want to be on the lake shore or in the hills.
Mistake to avoid: Do not assume a walk to the sights; neither site gives a distance, so check the map pin.

Choose it if: You want a plain chain hotel near the temple and have a car.
Skip it if: You want a pool or a design-led room.

Lake views; no checked hotel
Nong Han lake

- Setting / access
- Wikipedia puts the town on the south-west bank of the lake, which it calls the largest natural lake of north-east Thailand
- Rate
- Check live rates
- How you arrive
- Drive or taxi from the city; no checked hotel here
We found no hotel on the lake shore with its own website, so none is listed here. Wikipedia puts the town on the south-west bank of Nong Han, the largest natural lake of north-east Thailand, so you can reach the shore from any city hotel. It also warns that swimming is risky because of parasitic liver flukes.
Choose it if: You want the lake as a day-time stop and sleep in the city.
Skip it if: You want a hotel on the water; we found none with a checkable site.
Mistake to avoid: Do not swim in the lake; Wikipedia warns it is risky.

Hills and park; no checked hotel
Phu Phan hills
- Vibe
- Forested hills south-west of town
- Noise
- No verified noise information
- Setting / access
- Wikipedia puts Phu Phan National Park 25 km south-west of Sakon Nakhon town and 25 km north of Kalasin
- Rate
- Check live rates
- How you arrive
- Drive; no checked hotel here
We found no hotel in the hills with its own website, so none is listed here. Wikipedia says Phu Phan National Park is 25 km south-west of Sakon Nakhon town and about 25 km north of Kalasin, which makes it a day trip from a city hotel. Places advertised there are mostly on Facebook or booking sites, which we do not list.
Choose it if: You plan a day in the park and are happy to sleep in the city.
Skip it if: You want a hotel in the hills with a site you can read before booking.
Mistake to avoid: Do not book a hill stay on the assumption that it is close; check the map pin and the road.

Before you book
- Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
- Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
- If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
- Do not trust one number for the distance to Bangkok. Wikipedia gives 651 km by road and Wikivoyage 647 km, so treat it as roughly 650 km.
- Do not swim in Nong Han: Wikipedia warns that it is risky because of parasitic liver flukes. A lake view is a reason to look, not to swim.
- Most sights here are spread out. HOP INN's own page recommends having a car if you plan to visit several places, so ask the hotel what it can arrange.
FAQ
Where should first-time visitors stay in Sakon Nakhon?
Stay in the city, close to Wat Phra That Choeng Chum and the markets. Of the hotels we could check, HOP INN says it is near the temple and Phu Sakon Ville and @SAKON Hotel say they are in the centre. All the sights are spread out, so plan for a car or taxi.
Is there a hotel near Wat Phra That Choeng Chum?
HOP INN Sakon Nakhon names Wat Phra That Choeng Chum Worawihan as a nearby attraction on its own page. It gives no distance, so check the map pin. The other two hotels say only that they are in the city centre.
Which hotel here has a swimming pool?
Phu Sakon Ville Hotel says on its home page that it has a swimming pool, and its house rules close the pool from 22.00 to 07.00. The other two hotels' pages do not mention a pool, so ask before you rely on one.
Can I stay on Nong Han lake or in the Phu Phan hills?
We found no hotel on the lake shore or in the hills with a website we could check and quote. Some places there appear only on Facebook or on booking sites, and we do not list them. Wikipedia says Phu Phan National Park is 25 km south-west of the town, so it can also be visited from the city.
How do I get to Sakon Nakhon from Bangkok?
Wikivoyage says buses leave Bangkok's Northeast Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2) daily and that there are flights from Bangkok. Wikipedia puts the town about 651 km from Bangkok by road and the airport on the north side of the city. The button on this page opens the 12Go search for your own date.
Why are only three hotels listed?
We only list hotels whose own website we could open and quote. Chokdee Place's site carried hidden gambling spam text, Pimulano's domain did not resolve, The Longhouse's site returned almost no text, and many other hotels have only Facebook pages or booking-site listings. This is a checked list, not a full one.
Are the hotel prices shown?
No. Rates change with the date and room type, and the two hotel sites that show rooms give no prices we could verify. Use the booking buttons to search your own dates, and confirm the total with tax, parking and cancellation terms.
