Quick answer: where to stay in Nong Khai?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Nong Khai is the Mekong border town 615 km from Bangkok by road, and most visitors either stop for a night before Laos or stay for the river, Sala Kaew Ku and the market. This page compares four areas of the town and five hotels whose own websites we could read.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. We could not find a readable official site for most other Nong Khai hotels, so this is a short checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Decide what the stay is for. For the river walk and a slow stay, look at the Mekong riverfront. For a first night near the market and walking street, look at the town centre. For an early or late bridge crossing, look at the bridge side.
  2. Check the Laos plan before you book. The UK FCDO says you need a visa for Laos, tourist visas are 30 days from arrival, and the e-visa is single entry. Our Nong Khai guide covers the bridge and the train.
  3. Do not assume walking distances. Most hotel pages here give none, so check the map for the walk to the river, Tha Sadet market and the bridge.

Mut Mee Guest House gives its address as 1111/4 Kaeworawut Road and describes a tropical garden on the banks of the Mekong. Its own page says all of the riverfront is pedestrianised and that bicycles can be hired. It asks guests to book by email. Le Pont Riverfront Resort, also on the river, says it has 69 rooms in 4 styles, a swimming pool with a Mekong view and free breakfast, and gives its border time as 5 minutes.

Choose it if: You want a quiet garden on the river, a walk along the waterfront and a place used to guests crossing to Laos.

Skip it if: You want a modern hotel with fixed check-in times and a booking engine.

Mistake to avoid: Do not book only through a booking site without checking: the owners say they prefer email and decide room allocation themselves.

Day trips and planning from Nong Khai

We have no registered tour listing for Nong Khai yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Nong Khai, which currently earns us nothing, and results may be limited. Several guesthouses arrange their own trips, so ask first.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Nong Khai

Nong Khai has a railway station at the end of the line from Bangkok, buses, and an airport 56 km away at Udon Thani on Wikivoyage's figure. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Nong Khai page, which describes train, bus, van, flight and taxi options and, in its own text, the Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai railway and Route 2. We do not quote its prices. Check the arrival point and times before you book.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Le Pont gives no prices and no transport for its 5-minute border time, Mut Mee asks guests to book by email, Tanzeno's page is in Thai only and still shows placeholder text, and Nongkhai Grand's site is old. Hop Inn's check-in answers cover the whole chain. Confirm the details with each hotel.
  • Nong Khai has many more guesthouses and hotels than the five here. We only list hotels whose own site we could read and match, so absence from this page says nothing about a hotel's quality.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Nong Khai?

For the river and a slow pace, start with the Mekong riverfront: Mut Mee Guest House describes a garden on the bank and a pedestrianised riverfront. For a first night near the market, look at the town centre, where Hop Inn Nong Khai lists Tha Sadet Market and the walking street as nearby.

Which area is best for crossing to Laos?

Tanzeno Hotel says in Thai that it is near the Thai-Lao border crossing, and Hop Inn says its Nong Khai branch suits travellers continuing to border crossings. Both pages give no distance, so check the map. The UK FCDO says you need a Laos visa and a digital immigration form for the Friendship Bridge.

Can I book Mut Mee through Booking.com or Agoda?

Its own Prices and Booking page says the owners would much prefer to be written to personally rather than booked through an online agency, and gives an email address. Use that before a booking site.

Is there a beach in Nong Khai?

No. The river is the water, and Wikivoyage says a seasonal river beach appears near the Friendship Bridge from January to May when the Mekong is low. We could not verify that, so ask locally.

Do I need a hotel near the station or the bus station?

Not necessarily. Mut Mee's own page says the best Bangkok train takes about 10 hours, Wikivoyage calls Nong Khai the terminus of the north-eastern line, and Wikipedia gives the station as 623.58 km from Bangkok. Tuk-tuks and songthaews cover the town; ask the hotel what is easiest from your arrival point.

When is the Naga fireball festival?

Mut Mee's own site says the last day of Buddhist Lent is Monday 26 October 2026 and gives a festival from 23 to 27 October. Book early if you plan to stay in Nong Khai then. We could not verify the dates on an official site.

Why do you list only five hotels?

We only list hotels whose own website we could read and check on 16 October 2026. Many Nong Khai hotels have no site we could confirm, or only a social-media page, so we left them out rather than guess.

Are prices shown?

No. Rates change with dates, so the booking buttons open a search for your own dates.
