Chengdu is big and its sights are spread out, so choosing a hotel is really choosing where each day starts. Around Chunxi Road and Taikoo Li you are in the middle of the restaurants and old lanes. In the north you are closer to the Panda Base but farther from food and nightlife. If you fly into Tianfu, allow more time to reach the city than from Shuangliu. This page compares districts with figures from the Panda Base and Shuangliu Airport sites, and lists 11 hotels that we checked twice against their own websites on 16 October 2026. We show no room prices or review scores, and we have not stayed at any of them.

The city overview is the Chengdu travel guide, and the Panda Base is on its own page. Entry rules and payments are on the China hub.

Where times differ: the Panda Base gives 25 to 35 minutes by taxi from Chunxi Road and 40 to 50 minutes from Shuangliu airport. Wikivoyage says Line 10 from Shuangliu to the city centre takes about 30 to 40 minutes (unofficial). We use the official figure when there is one and treat the others as a guide.

If you want to sleep near the Panda Base, we can list only one budget hotel in the north, and its page gives no distance to the base. We have no mid-range or upscale hotel in that zone that passed our checks, because several chains' sites (Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Hyatt) would not open for automated reading and so did not reach our two-pass standard. If you prefer those chains, use the booking links below and check each hotel's own site.

What to check before you book

  • Open the map pin and check the distance from the hotel to where you actually want to go. Some hotel pages give a radius or approximate time and do not say whether it is on foot or by car.
  • If you arrive at Tianfu, allow more time into the city than from Shuangliu. See the Chengdu guide for the official figures.
  • Check cancellation terms, check-in time and what documents the hotel needs from foreign guests. The hotel sites we read do not explain this, and we did not check it.
  • The Panda Base needs a named ticket booked up to 14 days ahead. See the Panda Base page.

Frequently asked questions

Which area is best in Chengdu?

For old lanes and food, Chunxi Road or Tianfu. For an early panda slot, the north or a taxi from Chunxi Road. If you fly into Tianfu, the east is convenient but far from the centre.

How do I get from Shuangliu airport to the city?

Metro Line 10 from T1 or T2, or the Night 1 bus to Chunxi Road for CNY 2 between 21:00 and 04:30, per the airport site.

How far is Tianfu airport from the Panda Base?

About CNY 200 and 60 to 70 minutes by taxi, per the base's own site. From Shuangliu it is about CNY 100 and 40 to 50 minutes.

Does this page show room prices?

No. Prices change by date and room. Use the search buttons in the booking box with your dates.

Why are there no Marriott, Hilton or Hyatt hotels?

Those chains' sites would not open for automated reading when we checked, so they did not meet our two-pass standard. It does not mean they are not good.

Which hotel is nearest the Panda Base?

We cannot confirm. The only northern hotel we checked, ibis Zoo Subway Station, gives no distance to the base on its page.

When was this checked?

Hotel facts and travel facts were checked on 16 October 2026, and the Panda Base and airport pages were re-opened on 17 October 2026. A hotel not in this list is not a hotel we think is bad.

How this guide compares

We read China Highlights' Chengdu guide and Travel China Guide's Chengdu city guide. Both recommend staying around Chunxi Road, and China Highlights adds that prices there are higher. They explain districts well but, in the text we read, do not give hotel facts verified against each hotel's own site or official travel times from the Panda Base and airport pages. This page gives those, shows no prices or ratings, and is open about the chains we could not read.

The buttons in the booking box open the providers' hotel search pages for Chengdu. As of 17 October 2026 we have no registered affiliate link for Chengdu and earn nothing from them yet, and we do not compare prices. The "Official site" link on each hotel card goes to the hotel's own website.
