Quick answer: where to stay in Nakhon Phanom?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Nakhon Phanom is a Mekong border city in upper Isaan, facing Thakhek in Laos. Most visitors split their time between two places: the city itself, with its river road, weekend walking street and Ho Chi Minh's house, and That Phanom, the pilgrimage town about 50 km south that holds Wat Phra That Phanom. This page compares three areas: the city and the Mekong road, the north side towards the Third Friendship Bridge, and That Phanom with the southern Mekong road.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website (or, for BTP Hotel, its operator's page) and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Facts we could not re-find on the site were removed. Several official sites in town would not open for us or were parked domains, so this is a checked list of 8, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Decide whether you are here for the city or for the temple. Five of the eight hotels are in the city, within reach of the Mekong road. Two are near That Phanom, where Wat Phra That Phanom is. Naka-Raj Escape sits on the northern side, closer to the bridge.
  2. Check the distance to the places you actually want. Fortune Viewkhong says its hotel is 1.35 km from the Phaya Si Satta Nakharat naga landmark, and Naka-Raj Escape says the walking street is 15 minutes away by car. Wikivoyage describes a waterfront cycle way and tuk-tuk style three-wheelers for getting around town.
  3. Confirm that the hotel is open and that the room has the view you want. BTP Hotel's operator page was headed 'Opening Q2 2026' when we read it, one hotel's address line also names That Phanom although the street is in the city, and Thatphanom Riverview's site gives two different capacities for its function room. Ask before you pay for a non-refundable rate.

About 20 km from the airport per Wikivoyage; Fortune River View offers an airport transfer

Five hotels here: Fortune River View Hotel (9 Nakhon Phanom-That Phanom Road), Fortune Viewkhong Hotel (527 Sunthon Wichit Road), VELA Dhi Nakhon Phanom (19 Nakhon Phanom Road), BTP Hotel Nakhon Phanom and Porpiang Hotel (90/9 Soi Jerdja, Fueng Nakhon Road). Fortune Viewkhong says it is 1.35 km from the naga landmark, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand says the walking street runs along Sunthon Wichit Road from the clock tower to the naga monument.

Choose it if: You want to see the river road, the walking street and Ho Chi Minh's house without much driving.

Skip it if: You want to sleep next to Wat Phra That Phanom or right beside the bridge.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume that every city hotel overlooks the river. Porpiang presents itself as a town-centre stay, and the Fortune group's site describes river views in general terms, so ask for a river-facing room if you want one.

Naka-Raj Escape says it is in Samat Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Phanom District, 15 minutes by car from the weekend walking street and 10 minutes from the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. It lists Deluxe rooms with a kitchenette, a Junior Suite and several suites, including a Two Bedroom Family Suite. The Tourism Authority of Thailand places the bridge at Ban Hom in At Samat sub-district.

Choose it if: You are driving or crossing into Laos and want a suite with a kitchenette.

Skip it if: You want to walk to the river promenade or the night market in the evening.

Mistake to avoid: Do not plan on strolling to the walking street from here. The hotel's own figure is 15 minutes by car, so budget for taxis or a rental.

Thatphanom Riverview says Nakhon Phanom Airport is a 45-minute drive away

Two hotels here: Thatphanom Riverview Hotel (258 Moo 2, Thatphanom), which says its view takes in Wat Phra That Phanom or the Mekong, and Amy's Mekong Resort, which says it is 10 km from That Phanom and 61 km south of Nakhon Phanom. The Tourism Authority of Thailand puts Phra That Phanom 50 km from Nakhon Phanom town and Wikivoyage says 53 km, so the two figures differ.

Choose it if: You want to visit the pilgrimage temple early or in the quiet hours.

Skip it if: You want to be a few minutes from the river walking street or the city's restaurants.

Mistake to avoid: Do not treat a base here as a day trip from the city in reverse. Plan about an hour on the road each way and check the February temple fair dates if you want a quiet stay.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Some festival dates fill the province: Wikipedia says the Phra That Phanom fair is held every February and the illuminated boat procession happens at the end of Buddhist Lent. Book earlier for those dates and ask your hotel about parking and noise.
  • Wikivoyage says there are few restaurants open at night in the town centre, and the walking street runs only on certain evenings. Check the day of the week you arrive.
