Mukdahan is a small Mekong border town in Isaan, facing Savannakhet in Laos. Most visitors stay in the town itself, because the Indochina Market and the river promenade, Ho Kaeo tower, the night market and the road to the Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge are all within a few kilometres. This page compares three areas: the riverfront by the Indochina Market, the town centre, and Wan Yai district about 32 km north of town. The town has no airport and no railway, so most guests arrive by bus or car.
Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Several well-known Mukdahan hotels have only a Facebook page or an unreachable site, so they are not listed. This is a checked list, not a complete one.
How to choose
- Decide whether you want the river or the centre. Hotel de Ladda and Riverfront Hotel say they sit on the Mekong bank by the Indochina Market, with river views. The other hotels here give town-centre addresses, so the river is a short drive or walk away rather than outside the door.
- Check distances on the hotel's own page. B2 lists the night market at 1.3 km, the Indochina Market at 1.4 km, the Second Friendship Bridge at 8.0 km and Phu Pha Thoep National Park at 16.8 km, which is a useful guide to how far the town centre is from each sight.
- Expect a quiet border town. Plan the park, the temple and the bridge as short trips by car or taxi, and check the final rate with tax, cancellation terms and breakfast. Several small hotels here show little detail on their sites, so ask by phone or message before you pay.

Hotel de Ladda says it sits on the bank of the Mekong, a few minutes' walk from the Indo-China market, with balconies and a pool that looks over the river. Riverfront Hotel says it is next to the Mekong in the centre of the city, with parking and breakfast. Both sites carry old footers (2021 and 2011), so confirm what is current.
Choose it if: You want to see the Mekong from your room and walk to the market in the evening.
Skip it if: You want the newest rooms or a detailed, recently updated website.
Mistake to avoid: Do not book a river-view room without asking: Riverfront Hotel says its Superior and Junior Suite rooms are at the front and Standard rooms at the back.

Choose it if: You have a car and want a quiet river stay rather than the town.
Skip it if: You rely on taxis or want to walk to restaurants and shops.

Getting to Mukdahan
Mukdahan has no airport and no railway. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Mukdahan page, which when we opened it in a browser on 16 October 2026 listed buses, with operators such as Transport Co and Nakhonchai Air, and taxis. Check the departure point, the time and the operator before you book. Our Mukdahan guide covers the bus station, the airport options and the Lao bridge.

Before you book
- Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
- Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
- If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
- Do not count on a ferry across the river. Thai Wikipedia says the old ferry service from the municipal pier has stopped, and the bridge is the crossing to Savannakhet. Check the current rules and hours for the bridge before you plan a day trip.
- Bus times and fares change, so confirm them before you book a night bus. Thai Wikipedia gives about 11 hours from Bangkok with night departures between 18:00 and 20:30.
FAQ
Where should I stay in Mukdahan for the first time?
Most first-time visitors pick between the riverfront and the town centre. For Mekong views and the Indochina Market on foot, look at Hotel de Ladda or Riverfront Hotel. For a budget hotel near the sights, look at B2 or HOP INN. The cards below show what each hotel says on its own site.
Is there a hotel on the Mekong in Mukdahan?
Two of the checked hotels say so. Hotel de Ladda says it is on the bank of the Mekong, and Riverfront Hotel says it sits next to the Mekong in the centre of the city by the Indochina Market. Baan Kieng Sawan is also on the river, but in Wan Yai district, about 32 km from town according to Wikipedia.
How do I get to Mukdahan?
There is no airport or railway in the province. Thai Wikipedia names Nakhon Phanom airport, about 120 km away, as the most used, and gives about 11 hours by bus from Bangkok. Our Mukdahan guide covers the bus, the car and the 12Go route page.
Is Mukdahan close to the Laos border?
Yes. The Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge to Savannakhet is the main crossing. B2 lists it at 8.0 km from its door, and HOP INN says it has convenient access to the bridge. Check border rules before you go.
Which hotels here have a pool?
Hotel de Ladda mentions a pool and sun terrace with Mekong views, Ploy Palace lists an outdoor swimming pool, and Mukda Sawan lists an outdoor pool. Confirm opening and any fees with the hotel.
Why are some well-known Mukdahan hotels missing?
We only list hotels where we could open the official website and re-find every fact. Some Mukdahan hotels have only a Facebook page, and a few sites did not load, so we left them out rather than guess.
Do I need a car in Mukdahan?
Not for the riverfront and the town centre, where the Indochina Market and the night market are close. You will want a car or a taxi for Phu Pha Thoep National Park, Wat Roi Phra Phutthabat Phu Manorom, the Friendship Bridge and Wan Yai.
