Chongqing hotels are easier to choose if you split the city in two. The Yuzhong peninsula, with Jiefangbei and Hongya Cave, is the best for evening walks. Across the Jialing river to the north is Liangjiang New Area, with Guanyinqiao, Chongqing North railway station and the airport. This page compares the areas and 8 hotels that we checked against their own websites on 16 October 2026. Seven came from Accor's English pages and one from Niccolo's site. We have not stayed in any of them. The card text is what each hotel's site says, and we show no room rates or review scores.

If you have not picked sights yet, start with the Chongqing travel guide. Entry rules and payments are on the China hub.

Pick the metro line before the hotel

The cableway operator says the north station is reached by Line 1 or Line 6 to Xiaoshizi, exit 5, about 30 m, and the south station by Line 6 to Shangxinjie, exit 2. Wikivoyage says Line 2 is the monorail that passes Liziba, and Line 3 passes Chongqing North station on its way to the airport. Once you know which sight you want first, choose a hotel whose site names a station that connects to that line.

Getting to your hotel

From Jiangbei airport

Fares, times and which line serves which terminal differ between sources, as noted in the Chongqing travel guide, so we give no figures. Pullman Xiyue says Jiangbei airport and Guanyinqiao are a few minutes away. If you stay there, ask the hotel how to get from the airport.

From the railway stations

Chongqing North station (Pullman and Mercure North) and Chongqing East station, which the Chongqing government says opened on 27 June 2025, are two of the city's four main railway stations. We have not checked a hotel near the East station. For train tickets, see the China hub.

What each hotel's own site says about getting around

This table uses only distances and times the hotels write themselves, checked on 16 October 2026. A dash means the site says nothing, not that the hotel is near or far.

HotelStation or route per the siteOther detail the site gives
Mercure Chongqing DowntownNext to exit 9 of Jiaochangkou station, Line 1 (the access table says 30 m, 1 minute)Hongya Cave 200 m (the same page also writes 10 minutes' walk)
ibis Jiefangbei Pedestrian StreetNext to Lines 1 and 6 (poorly translated text)The monument, Hongya Cave, Chaotianmen pier and the Yangtze cableway
Mercure Jiefangbei Hongya Cave-The 13th-floor breakfast room looks at the Jiefangbei monument
Mercure Guanyinqiao CenterHongqihegou stationNear the Guanyinqiao and Jiujia shopping area
Mercure Times Paradise Walk-In the Xiejiawan sub-district, Jiulongpo
Mercure North Railway StationNear Tangjiayuanzi station, Line 310-minute drive to Chongqing North station
Pullman Chongqing XiyueLinks Lines 3, 4 and 10, about 200 m from Line 3The access table gives 800 m, 5 minutes on foot to Chongqing North station
Niccolo Chongqing-In Chongqing IFS, some rooms see the river confluence and Hongya Cave

If you want to walk to Hongya Cave and Jiefangbei without a taxi, look at Mercure Downtown and Mercure Hongya Cave. If you have an early high-speed train, look at Pullman Xiyue, which says it links to the station, but its own distance figures do not agree with each other.

8 hotels checked against their own sites

The cards show facts checked against each hotel's own site on 16 October 2026, with highlights and cautions. There are no room rates or review scores. Every page was read in English, and several are poor translations, for example the ibis page, which garbled the hotel's own name, so we added cautions. Seven hotels belong to Accor and one is Niccolo. The IHG, Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton websites refused automated access on the day, so none of those chains is in the list. That says nothing about their quality.

Hand-picked places to stay

Examples of established Chongqing hotels, spread across areas and budget bands. Every fact below was checked against the hotel's own website or a reputable source on 2026-10-16 and links to that source. We have not stayed at these places and give no ratings; we show no prices because rates change daily. The band is the property class (hostel or guesthouse, mid-range, upscale), not a live price.

What to check before you book

  • Open the map and check the route from the station exit. The city is hilly, and some stretches need stairs.
  • Check check-in time, cancellation terms and fees on the booking page itself.
  • If you carry a large bag, check whether the walk from the station has lifts or escalators.
  • If you land late, check the Line 3 and Line 10 timetable for that day, or ask the hotel about a car.
  • Sights: Hongya Cave, the Yangtze River Cableway and Wulong.

How this guide compares

We read China Highlights' and Travel China Guide's Chongqing guides. They describe the city and its sights but, in the text we read, do not give hotel facts verified against each hotel's own site, or a table of distances that only uses what the hotels write. This page does that, shows no prices or ratings, and says which chains we could not read.

The buttons in the booking box open the providers' hotel search pages for Chongqing. As of 17 October 2026 we have no registered affiliate link for Chongqing hotels and earn nothing from them yet, and we do not compare prices. You can also book directly on the hotel's own website, which each card links to.
