Quick answer: where to stay in Ubon Ratchathani?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Ubon Ratchathani is the big city of south-east Isan, and the province stretches from the Mun River in town to the Mekong at Khong Chiam, about 80 km to the east. Where you sleep depends on whether you are here for the city, the Candle Festival and the temples, or for Pha Taem, Sam Phan Bok and the meeting of the Mekong and Mun rivers. This page covers four areas: the city centre, the Central Ubon and airport side, Warin Chamrap across the river, and Khong Chiam.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Several well-known Ubon hotels have no readable official site, or only a placeholder one, so this is a checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Decide what the trip is for. For the city, the night market and temples such as Wat Thung Si Mueang, stay in the centre. For a late flight or a quick base with parking, look at the Central Ubon and airport side. For Pha Taem, Sam Phan Bok and Kaeng Tana, staying in Khong Chiam saves a drive of roughly 80 km each way (the Department of National Parks figure from Ubon to Khong Chiam).
  2. Plan transport. Ubon is spread out: B2 gives 9.6 km to Thung Sri Mueang by its own list, and the Khong Chiam hotels are a long drive from town. Check a map pin for each hotel and ask about airport transfers; Arista and Laithong list them on their sites.
  3. If you come for the Candle Festival, which Tohsang Heritage Ubon says takes place around July at the start of Buddhist Lent, look at hotels early. We found no verified room-count or demand figures, so this is only a sensible precaution.

Taxi or hotel transfer; Tohsang says a 10-minute drive to the airport

Three hotels here. Tohsang Heritage Ubon says it is in the heart of the city and began as Tohsang Ubon Hotel in 1992. Arista Hotel Ubon says it is walkable to Big C and near the night market, with a fitness room and an airport shuttle. Laithong Hotel lists 124 rooms, a pool and meeting rooms for up to 1,100 guests, and some rooms overlooking the Mun River.

Choose it if: You want to be near the city sights and markets and can use taxis for the rest.

Skip it if: You want to sleep next to the Mekong or the airport.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume everything is walkable; Tohsang gives only a drive time to the airport, so check the map for distances to Thung Si Mueang and the markets.

Three hotels. Centara Ubon says it is in the hub of Southern Isan, 6.5 km from the nearest airport, with 160 rooms and an outdoor pool. HOP INN Ubon Ratchathani says it is near Big C and Central Ubon and about 15 minutes from the airport. B2 Ubon Boutique & Budget Hotel gives its address on Ubon Ratchathani-Trakarn Road and lists 92 rooms and a car park, but also gives 9.6 km to Thung Sri Mueang.

Choose it if: You are driving, flying in late or want a chain hotel near shopping.

Skip it if: You want to walk to temples and the riverside.

Mistake to avoid: Do not treat all three as the same distance from the centre; B2 lists itself 10.2 km from Central Ubon.

Tohsang Heritage Khongjiam calls itself a riverside hotel at the easternmost part of Thailand, with Indigo, Forest and Villa wings totalling 55 rooms, a pool and spa, and kayaking and a Mekong cruise listed for November to April. Khong Chiam Orchid Riverside Resort gives an address at Huai Mak Tai and lists a 50 sqm villa for 6 people, but its FAQ page has template text, so confirm details.

Choose it if: You want the Mekong and Mun rivers at the door and a base for Pha Taem.

Skip it if: You want city restaurants and nightlife on foot.

We have no registered tour listing for Ubon Ratchathani yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Ubon Ratchathani, which currently earns us nothing, and results may be limited. Hotels such as Tohsang Heritage Khongjiam list their own experiences, so ask your hotel first.

Getting to Ubon Ratchathani

Ubon Ratchathani has an airport that is also a Royal Thai Air Force base, a railway station in Warin Chamrap and a bus terminal. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani page, which when we opened it in a real browser on 16 October 2026 listed bus, train, flight and taxi options and an editorial note about the Morchit bus terminal, trains and flights. We quote no fares or departures because we did not capture them. Check the arrival point and the last transport before you book.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • The Ubon hotels with checkable official sites are fewer than the hotels listed on booking sites. We dropped hotels whose own site was missing or only a template, so a hotel not on this page is not necessarily a bad one.
  • Two sites contain template text: Khong Chiam Orchid's FAQ page describes rooftop pools on a 16th floor, and Laithong's website looks dated. Confirm pools, check-in times and rooms by phone or message before you book.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Ubon Ratchathani?

For the city, start with the centre. Tohsang Heritage Ubon says it is in the heart of the city, and Arista says it is within walking distance of Big C and near the night market and walking street. If the plan is mostly Pha Taem and the Mekong, stay in Khong Chiam instead and treat the city as a day trip.

Is it better to stay in Ubon city or in Khong Chiam?

It depends on the trip. The Department of National Parks gives about 80 km from Ubon to Khong Chiam, then a further stretch to the Pha Taem office, so a single day trip from the city is long. Khong Chiam hotels put you next to the rivers, but the town is quiet in the evening and you need a car or a transfer for the rest of the province.

Which hotels are close to the airport?

By their own figures: Centara Ubon says 6.5 km from the nearest airport, HOP INN says about 15 minutes, B2 says 15 minutes, Tohsang Heritage Ubon says a 10-minute drive, and Arista says 10 to 15 minutes. Laithong says 10 minutes and lists a daily complimentary airport transfer. Distances come from the hotels, so check the map.

When is the Ubon Candle Festival?

Tohsang Heritage Ubon's site says it takes place around July every year to mark the beginning of Buddhist Lent, with a procession that ends at Thung Si Mueang. We did not find the exact 2027 dates on a source we could verify, so check the city or Tourism Authority of Thailand announcement before you book.

Do any of these hotels have a pool?

Centara Ubon lists an outdoor swimming pool and terrace, Laithong lists an outdoor pool and fitness, and Tohsang Heritage Khongjiam lists a swimming pool open 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. Khong Chiam Orchid lists a swimming pool on its amenities page, but its FAQ text describes rooftop pools on a 16th floor, which looks like template wording, so confirm it.

How do I get to Ubon from Bangkok?

Wikivoyage describes flights, buses of about 10 hours and trains of 8.5 to 11.5 hours, but its timetables and fares are dated, so check the operator. The 12Go Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani page listed bus, train, flight and taxi options when we opened it on 16 October 2026. The Ubon railway station is in Warin Chamrap, across the river from the centre.

Are these hotel prices?

No. We show no prices or ratings because we have no current, verifiable figures. The buttons open a search for your own dates.
