Quick answer: where to stay in Lampang?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Lampang is the horse-carriage town of northern Thailand, about 100 km south-east of Chiang Mai, and most hotels sit in one of three places: in or next to the old town by the Wang River, along the roads of the modern city centre, or out in gardens and villages by the rivers. This page compares those three areas and lists 11 hotels, from a 20 sq.m. budget room to a 29-rai garden resort.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Facts we could not re-find on the site were removed. Many small Lampang guesthouses have no website we could open, so this is a checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Decide whether you want the old town or a car-based stay. The old streets, the Wang River and Kad Kong Ta are compact enough to walk, but only a few hotels on this list sit there. Most others are on main roads or outside town, and the hotels' own sites give airport times of 10 to 20 minutes and a Chiang Mai drive of about 90 minutes.
  2. Match the hotel to your route. TAT's newsroom guide puts Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang about 18 km south-west of town and the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre at the 37 km marker on the Chiang Mai road, while Chae Son National Park is far to the north (Wikipedia says 75 km). A Ko Kha or highway hotel shortens some days and lengthens others.
  3. Check what the site actually says. One guesthouse's site is dated 2012, one site also advertises the business for sale, and several sites are short or in Thai only. We flag these on each card, but a phone call or message before you pay is still sensible. Check the final rate with tax, payment timing and cancellation terms.

Taxi or horse carriage from the station; walkable from the old town

This is the part of Lampang that TAT's newsroom guide recommends exploring on foot or by horse carriage. Asia Lampang Hotel's Thai home page calls itself a stay near Kad Kong Ta and says it has more than 70 rooms in 4 room types. The Riverside Guest House describes river-facing verandas and says its lounge veranda is five minutes on foot from downtown, but its site footer is dated 2012, so contact it before you plan around it.

Choose it if: You want to walk to the old town, the river and the market without a car.

Skip it if: You want a pool, a large garden or modern facilities, or you need an English-language website.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume the Riverside Guest House is open and has rooms because its old site still loads; confirm by phone or email first.

Airport 10 to 15 minutes by the hotels' own figures; taxi or own car to the old town

Six hotels on this list are on Phaholyothin Road, near the bus station or on the Lampang-Ngao highway. Wienglakor Hotel has 100 Lanna-styled rooms and says the airport is ten minutes away. Regent Lodge Lampang calls itself the only halal hotel in Lampang and puts Kad Kong Ta 2.1 km away. HOP INN Lampang says it is near Wat Sri Chum, the walking street and shopping centres. C2 Residence says it is one minute from the bus station. Tree Tara Hotel has private onsen baths and Sibtis Hotel is an art-gallery hotel, both on the highway.

Choose it if: You arrive by bus, train or plane, want parking or a restaurant on site, or need a halal kitchen.

Skip it if: You want to walk out of the door into the old town.

Mistake to avoid: Do not treat Kad Kong Ta as walkable from every hotel here; Regent Lodge puts it 2.1 km away, and Tree Tara and Sibtis are on the highway.

Airport transfer about 15 to 20 minutes (River Retreat) or 15 minutes (Hideaway); own car or taxi for the rest

Lampang River Retreat sits on 29 rai of gardens around a lotus lake near the Wang River, with stilted Lanna houses and a lakeside pool. Lampang Hideaway has two riverside bungalows on the Tui River, about 3.7 km from the city centre, and its site also advertises the business for sale. Baan Suan Resort is in Ko Kha, 200 metres from the Bangkok-Chiang Mai road, on the way towards Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang, which TAT puts about 18 km south-west of town.

Choose it if: You have a car, want space, a garden or a pool, and plan to visit Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang.

Skip it if: You want to walk to restaurants or the night market.

Mistake to avoid: Do not book a Ko Kha stay for an evening at Kad Kong Ta; the two are far apart, and the Baan Suan site itself names both as nearby.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Hot weather and smoke affect planning. Wikipedia says April can reach 40 to 43 degrees Celsius and that field burning after harvest often dulls the winter sky. Ask the hotel whether air-conditioning and a pool matter more to you than a garden room, and check air quality before a winter trip.
  • Day trips are long. TAT puts Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang about 18 km out, and Wikipedia places Chae Son National Park 75 km north of town. We could not verify opening hours or fees for either, so check before you set off.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Lampang?

For walking to the old town, look at the old-town area, where Asia Lampang Hotel and the Riverside Guest House are. For easy arrivals and a restaurant on site, look at Wienglakor Hotel in the city centre. For a garden and pool, look at Lampang River Retreat. The cards below show what each hotel says on its own site.

Is Lampang worth staying in rather than visiting from Chiang Mai?

TAT says Lampang is easily visited by train or bus from Chiang Mai as a single destination, and suggests it works best in a five- to seven-day road trip with Lamphun, Phrae and Nan. Staying at least one night lets you see the old town and the market in the evening.

How do I get to Lampang?

Lampang is a little more than 600 km north of Bangkok. Options are the train (Wikipedia says about 10 hours), buses, flights to Lampang Airport, or a drive from Chiang Mai of roughly 90 minutes according to one hotel. Our Lampang guide has the details and the 12Go route page.

Is the old town walkable from the bus station?

We could not verify walking times from the bus station to the old town. C2 Residence says it is one minute from the bus station, and Regent Lodge puts Kad Kong Ta 2.1 km from its door, so plan on a short taxi or songthaew ride unless your hotel is in the old town.

Which hotels are near Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang?

Baan Suan Resort in Ko Kha says on its About page that it is near the temple. TAT puts the temple about 18 km south-west of town. We did not find an official hotel site that gives a verified distance, so check the map pin and travel time.

Are there hotels near Chae Son hot springs?

None of the 11 hotels here is near Chae Son National Park, which Wikipedia places 75 km north of Lampang town. TAT says camping and accommodation are available in the park, but we could not open an official booking page, so we do not list it.

Is there a halal hotel in Lampang?

Regent Lodge Lampang calls itself the only halal hotel in Lampang and lists a certified halal kitchen and a prayer room on its home page. That is the hotel's own claim, so confirm with the hotel if halal certification matters to you.

Why are some well-known Lampang guesthouses missing?

We only list hotels whose own website we could open and read. Several old-town guesthouses and homestays have only a Facebook page or a LINE account, and a few official domains no longer load, so we left them out. This is a checked list, not a complete one.
