Lamphun is the small, quiet province just south of Chiang Mai. Most people see its temples on a day trip, but a night or two lets you visit Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, the national museum and the weaving centres without the Chiang Mai traffic. This page covers three areas: Lamphun town, Mae Tha with Doi Khun Tan, and the golf resorts at Makua Chae and Ban Thi.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these places. Every card shows facts taken from the stay's own official website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Lamphun is a small market: we could find official websites for only eight stays, so this is a checked list, not a complete one. Many smaller guesthouses and hotels here have a Facebook page or a booking-site listing only, and we left them out.

How to choose

  1. Decide what the stay is for. For temples and the museum, stay in Lamphun town. For mountains, the railway tunnel or camping, look at Mae Tha. For a golf trip, look at the Gassan resorts at Makua Chae or Ban Thi.
  2. Check how you will move around. Lamphun town is compact, but Mae Tha and Ban Thi are a drive from the temples, and we could not verify a local bus timetable, so plan a taxi or a car.
  3. Check the opening days of what you want to see. The provincial tourism site lists Hariphunchai National Museum as closed Monday and Tuesday and the Hand-woven Textile Institute as closed at weekends. Our Lamphun guide has the details.

Four hotels here. Baan La Poon Hotel is a nine-room hotel on Phra Khong Rue Si Road, The Grand Jamjuree Resort is a garden resort with riverside houses and meeting rooms, Royal Princess City Lamphun has 33 rooms and a garden cafe, and GRAND PA Hotel & Resort in Wiang Yong lists a pool and fitness centre. The provincial tourism site places Wat Phra That Hariphunchai in the heart of town and lists the Hariphunchai National Museum as open Wednesday to Sunday.

Choose it if: You want to see the temples and the museum on foot or a short ride, and sleep in a quiet small city.

Skip it if: You want nightlife, big shopping or a beach.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume all four are walkable to the temple; three give a Moo (village) address, so check the distance on the map.

Two options. Gassan Khuntan Golf & Resort says its course was built around the railway bridge and the Khuntan Tunnel and lists 40 Deluxe Twin rooms. Doi Khun Tan National Park offers bungalows, camp houses and tent areas through its own booking site; the park covers Mae Tha district in Lamphun and parts of Lampang. The booking pages are in Thai and we read no prices.

Choose it if: You want mountains and the national park more than temples.

Skip it if: You depend on public transport or want to walk to restaurants.

Mistake to avoid: Do not treat the park bungalows like a hotel booking; they are managed by the park authority's own system, so check availability first.

Hand-picked places to stay

Examples of established Lamphun hotels, spread across areas and budget bands. Every fact below was checked against the hotel's own website or a reputable source on 2026-10-16 and links to that source. We have not stayed at these places and give no ratings; we show no prices because rates change daily. The band is the property class (hostel or guesthouse, mid-range, upscale), not a live price.

Day trips and planning from Lamphun

We have no registered tour listing for Lamphun yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Lamphun, which currently earns us nothing, and results may be limited. Lamphun is also an easy day trip from Chiang Mai.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Lamphun

Lamphun has no big airport of its own that we could confirm. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Lamphun page, which on 16 October 2026 listed train, bus, flight and taxi options, 12 departures a day, the earliest at 4:00 AM and the latest at 10:47 PM, with operators such as Thai Railway, Cherdchai Tour North, Sombat Tour, Bangkok Airways and Thai AirAsia. We do not quote its fares, and we ignore its distance figure, which looked wrong. Check the arrival point before you book; Chiang Mai International Airport is the usual air gateway (GRAND PA says it is 34 km away). Our Lamphun guide covers the sights.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Some hotel websites on this page are in Thai only, one only answered over plain http and a few inner pages gave errors when we checked, so confirm rooms, rates and policies by phone or message before you book a non-refundable room.
  • Distances differ between sources: Wikipedia's Lamphun pages give 19 km, about 25 km and 26 km from Chiang Mai to Lamphun, so ask the hotel for the driving time from where you will arrive.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Lamphun?

For temples and the museum, start with Lamphun town. Baan La Poon Hotel has 9 rooms by its own count, and Royal Princess City Lamphun lists 33 rooms and a garden cafe. If you want a pool, GRAND PA Hotel & Resort lists one.

Do I need to stay overnight, or is Lamphun a day trip from Chiang Mai?

It works as a day trip, since Wikipedia puts the town about 19 to 26 km south of Chiang Mai. A night in town helps if you want to see the temples and the museum without rushing, and the museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday per the provincial site.

Is there a hotel near Doi Khun Tan National Park?

Gassan Khuntan Golf & Resort is in Mae Tha and says its course was built around the Khuntan Tunnel. The park itself offers bungalows and tent areas through the national park booking site, whose pages are in Thai. Check availability with the park first.

Are there hotels for a golf trip?

Yes. The Gassan group lists Gassan Panorama at Makua Chae, Gassan Legacy at Ban Thi and Gassan Khuntan at Mae Tha. Gassan Legacy lists 66 Superior rooms; Gassan Panorama lists Studio and Suite rooms.

Can I take the train to Lamphun?

Wikipedia says Lamphun's main station is Lamphun Railway Station, and 12Go lists Thai Railway among the operators for Bangkok to Lamphun. We did not check train times or fares, so confirm them before you plan.

Do these hotels show prices on this page?

No. We show no prices because they change with dates and room type, and some sites show rates we cannot keep current. Use the booking button for live rates on your dates.

Why are there only eight stays?

We only list stays that have an official website we could read and check. Many Lamphun hotels and guesthouses have only a Facebook page or a booking-site listing, so they are not on this list.
