Samut Sakhon is close to Bangkok and most visitors go for the day, but a night in Mahachai puts you at the seafood market and the Mae Klong train at first light. This page lists three hotels in two parts of the province so you can pick one that fits your trip.

We list only three hotels, and we say so up front. We include a hotel only if it has a live official website whose text we could open and quote. The provincial website lists a dozen more apartments and hotels with phone numbers but no websites, and Grand Inter, S9, The Seaport, Sands Place and TharaD Place had no official site we could read, so they are not here. We show no prices because rates change with date and room type, and we have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 19 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked.

How to choose

  1. Decide between central Mahachai and the Khok Kham side. Two hotels are in the centre: Sakhonburi Cozy Hotel on Thonburi-Pak Tho Road and Thongchen Residence on Ekkachai Road. Phetara Hotel is beside a canal in Khok Kham.
  2. Read the distances as the hotels' own claims. Thongchen lists a 24-hour store 80 metres away, and Phetara lists its distance to Damnoen Saduak and the Mae Klong market on its own site. We found no official distance from any of the three to the market, the pier or the Phanthai Norasing area, so open the map pin before you book.
  3. Most sights are spread along the coast and rivers, so a car or driver helps. Ask the hotel what it can arrange, and confirm the final rate with tax, parking and cancellation terms.

Two hotels on this list are in the centre. Sakhonburi Cozy Hotel is a boutique-style hotel on Thonburi-Pak Tho Road with a cafe and rooms up to an 85 sqm duplex, and Thongchen Residence is an eight-storey apartment-style building on Ekkachai Road that rents rooms by the day or the month.

Choose it if: You want a base in Mahachai for the market and the train and an early start.

Skip it if: You want a canal setting and a pool, or your plan is the Phanthai Norasing coast by car.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume you can walk to the market; neither site gives a distance, so check the map pin.

One hotel on this list is on this side. Phetara Hotel Mahachai says it is beside a canal in Khok Kham and its gallery shows a pool, a fitness area and several room types. Rates load dynamically on its site.

Choose it if: You are driving, want free parking and a canal setting, and plan the coast sights.

Skip it if: You want to walk to the market and the railway station.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume it is near the market; its site gives a Khok Kham address, so check the map pin.

FAQ

Where should I stay in Samut Sakhon?

Which hotel is near the seafood market?

Sakhonburi Cozy Hotel and Thongchen Residence both say they are in central Mahachai. We found no official distance to the market or station for either, so check the map pin.

Is there a hotel near the Phanthai Norasing shrine?

Phetara says it is beside a canal in Khok Kham, in the same district. Its own site gives no distance to the shrine, so check the map.

Phetara Hotel Mahachai shows a pool and a fitness area in its own gallery. The other two sites we read do not list a pool.

Which hotel suits a longer stay?

Is Samut Sakhon a day trip or an overnight stop?

It is about 36 km from Bangkok according to Wikivoyage, so many visitors go for the day. A night in Mahachai suits an early market visit, and a night in Khok Kham suits the coast and canal sights.
