Sa Kaeo is a border province about 245 km east of Bangkok by Wikivoyage, and where you sleep decides how close you are to the Thai-Cambodian border. Sa Kaeo town is the usual base for Khao Chakan and Pang Sida. Aranyaprathet is next to Poipet and Rong Kluea Market. Pang Sida National Park has its own park houses. This page sorts the stays into those three areas.

Read the border note first. On 17 October 2026 the UK advice (updated 12 October) said to avoid all but essential travel within 20 km of the land border and the Canadian advice (updated 13 October) said to avoid all travel within 50 km, and both said the land crossings are closed or suspended. Aranyaprathet is only a few kilometres from the border. We give no view of our own on what is safe, so check your own government's latest advice before booking and choose rates with free cancellation.

We show no hotel prices, because rates change with date and room type and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these places. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 17 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Only six stays passed: we could not find a readable own website for most Sa Kaeo hotels, so this is a short checked list and not a full one (see the FAQ).

How to choose

  1. Decide how close to the border you are willing to be. Sa Kaeo town is the usual base for Khao Chakan, which Trip.com Moments puts about 17 km away, and for Pang Sida, which the DNP page puts about 27 km away. Aranyaprathet is the closest base to Rong Kluea Market, which Indochina Hotel lists 15 minutes away, and to Sdok Kok Thom, which it lists 30 minutes away.
  2. Treat travel times as hints. Indochina Hotel's location page lists Pang Sida waterfall one hour away and the Lalu soil pillars one hour away, but these are the hotel's own estimates. The DNP page gives the road to Pang Sida as about 27 km from Sa Kaeo town, so the real drive depends on where you start.
  3. Check the final rate with tax, parking and cancellation terms before you pay. Several of these sites list no prices and two have old footers, so call the hotel to confirm rooms and availability.

Two stays on this list are in Sa Kaeo town. Golden House Hotel Sakaeo says it is 3 km from the city centre with free Wi-Fi and free private parking, a 24-hour front desk and check-in from 14:00, and its rooms page lists breakfast. HOP INN Sa Kaeo is a chain hotel whose page says it is near Wat Sa Kaeo Royal Monastery, Kanchanaphisek Rama 9 Park, Big C and Makro, and suits a stopover on eastern routes. Neither page gives prices.

Choose it if: You have a car, want to see Khao Chakan and Pang Sida and prefer a base further from the border than Aranyaprathet.

Skip it if: You want Rong Kluea Market within minutes or a hotel pool.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume the town is outside every advised radius; we have no verified distance from the town to the border, so measure on a map.

Bus from Mo Chit or Ekkamai per Wikivoyage (2019, old); the Aranyaprathet station was closed by the railway on 21 December 2025 and the track section from Watthana Nakhon reopened on 2 October 2026, so check 1690 before relying on a train

Three stays on this list are in Aranyaprathet. Indochina Hotel lists 116 rooms and suites, an outdoor pool, and travel times of 15 minutes to Rong Kluea Market, 30 minutes to Sdok Kok Thom and one hour to Pang Sida waterfall. La Villa Boutique Hotel lists a salt-system pool, an onsen with hot and cold baths and a fitness room. My Room by Sermsub describes minimalist rooms with a shared pool, near Mini Big C, with check-in at any time. The UK and Canada both advise against travel in the radius that includes the town, so read the border note at the top.

Choose it if: You have checked the latest advice, accept the border-zone risk, and want to be near Rong Kluea Market and the Khmer sites.

Skip it if: You want the lowest border exposure, or you plan to cross into Cambodia (the crossing is closed).

Mistake to avoid: Do not book a non-refundable room: the UK and Canadian advice describes an unpredictable situation, curfews and martial-law powers in the border districts.

No public transport we could verify; the DNP page mentions a bus on Highway 3462 while Thai Holiday Guide says none runs to the gate, so plan on a hire car or driver

The DNP page for the park lists three park houses, Pang Sida 101 (Thap Sida), 102 (Soi Sida) and 201 (Lan Sida), and says guests collect the key at the visitor service centre after booking. It gives no prices or room counts. It also says there are no shops or restaurants in the park, and it lists a nature trail, waterfalls and butterfly watching. Our Pang Sida guide covers fees, hours and the sources that disagree.

Choose it if: You want to start early at the waterfall and butterflies, you have a car, and you will bring your own food.

Skip it if: You want hotel services, a restaurant, or a base with public transport.

Mistake to avoid: Do not count on food or phone signal in the park; the DNP page says there are no shops and signal only near the park office.

Day trips and planning from Sa Kaeo

We have no registered tour listing for Sa Kaeo yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search, which currently earns us nothing, and results may be limited. Ask your hotel first, since public transport inside the province is thin and some places arrange cars themselves.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Sa Kaeo

Most visitors reach Sa Kaeo by car, bus or taxi, or by the Eastern Line train. The 12Go Bangkok to Sa Kaeo page, when we opened it in a real browser on 16 October 2026 for 18 October and 2 travellers, showed 11 trips from THB 351 to THB 6,250: 2 buses (from THB 351) and 9 taxis (from THB 2,760). That is what the page showed that day, not a guarantee, and 12Go does not cover Pang Sida or border crossings. Check the operator, departure point and last service, and check the State Railway of Thailand (1690) for trains. Our getting-there guide covers the options.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Indochina Hotel's location page still lists Poipet casinos 20 minutes away, but the land border is closed according to the UK and Canadian advice. Do not plan a crossing from any hotel without checking the latest official status.
  • Golden House Hotel Sakaeo's footer reads 2016 and My Room by Sermsub gives no room price. Phone before you count on a rate.
  • The Pang Sida houses are listed on the DNP page without prices or room counts, and we did not test the DNP booking system, so confirm availability with the park (0 3724 7948 or 081 862 1511).

FAQ

Where should I stay in Sa Kaeo?

For Khao Chakan and Pang Sida, Sa Kaeo town is the usual base; Golden House Hotel Sakaeo and HOP INN Sa Kaeo are listed here. For the border market and Sdok Kok Thom, Aranyaprathet has Indochina Hotel, La Villa and My Room, but it sits inside the border zones the UK and Canada advise against.

Is it safe to stay in Aranyaprathet?

We cannot answer for the authorities. The UK advises against all but essential travel within 20 km of the land border and Canada advises against all travel within 50 km, and Aranyaprathet is only a few kilometres from the border. A curfew ordered on 10 December 2025 for four border districts, including Aranyaprathet, was reported lifted on 30 December 2025. Check the latest advice and choose free cancellation.

Can I stay inside Pang Sida National Park?

Yes, according to the DNP page, which lists houses Pang Sida 101, 102 and 201 and says guests collect the key at the visitor service centre after booking. The page gives no prices, and it says there are no shops or restaurants, so bring food.

Which hotels have a pool?

Indochina Hotel (outdoor pool), La Villa Boutique Hotel (salt-system pool) and My Room by Sermsub (shared pool) in Aranyaprathet, according to their own sites. We did not find a pool listed for the Sa Kaeo town hotels.

Why are only six stays listed?

We only list hotels whose own website we could open and quote. Several known names, including Tournesol, Sakaeo Garden Hotel, The VELO'S Hotel, Station One, Picha Ville and Odina, have no readable own site, only booking pages or Facebook. This is a checked list, not a complete one.

How far is Sa Kaeo from Bangkok?

Wikivoyage puts Sa Kaeo town about 245 km east of Bangkok, the DNP page gives 256 km by the Rangsit and Nakhon Nayok road, and Wikivoyage gives 210 to 245 km by other routes. Real drive time depends on traffic.

Can I cross to Cambodia from Aranyaprathet?

The UK and Canadian advice pages say the land crossings are closed or suspended. Do not book a through ticket that needs a crossing without confirming the latest official status.
