Betong is a small town in a mountain basin at the southern tip of Thailand, and most visitors use it as a base for the clock tower, the Piyamit tunnel, the hot spring and the sea-of-mist viewpoints. This page lists four hotels, all in Betong town, so you can choose one that fits your trip.

We list only four, and we say so up front. A hotel is here only if it has a live official website whose text we could open and quote. Three of the four belong to one local group and share one site (Grand Mandarin, Betong Merlin and Cathay). The Yala tourism office and Betong municipality list dozens more lodgings, but with Facebook pages or phone numbers only, so they are not here, and we found no hotel in Yala city or elsewhere in the province with a readable official site. We show no prices because rates change with date and room type, and we have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts from the hotel's own website, checked on 19 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. The sites' footers say 2016 or 2017, so treat them as old pages and confirm everything by phone or email.

Before you book, read the foreign-government advice for Yala: on 19 Oct 2026 the UK FCDO (updated 12 Oct 2026) advised against all but essential travel to Yala Province, Canada (updated 13 Oct 2026) advised avoiding all travel to Yala, and the US State Department (7 Jul 2026) put Yala at Level 2, exercise increased caution. Betong is inside Yala Province and is not named separately by those pages. Thailand's emergency decree (period ending 19 Oct 2026) excludes Betong, but the Internal Security Act covers it. FCDO also warns that travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against its advice. We only report what these sources say; see the Yala guide for dates, wording and links.

How to choose

  1. All four hotels say they are in or near the centre of Betong, so the choice is about size, budget and noise rather than area. Grand Mandarin (266 rooms) and Betong Merlin (189 rooms) are the larger ones, Cathay (99 rooms) is the budget option of the same group, and Butterfly Princess is the one that mentions free parking.
  2. Betong town is about 7 km from the border post, according to Thai Wikipedia, and about 140 km from Yala city by road. Most sights are outside the centre, so ask the hotel about a driver or a ride before dawn if you want the sea of mist.
  3. Read the claims as the hotels' own words. Check the exact map pin, the final rate with tax, parking and cancellation terms. Merlin's site advertises a night club in the building in front of the hotel that opens late, so ask for a quiet room if that matters.

Road or rail to Yala, then about 140 km by van or taxi; we could not confirm current flights

All four hotels on this list say they are in or near the centre. Grand Mandarin and Betong Merlin are the larger hotels, Cathay is the budget option of the same group, and Butterfly Princess lists free parking and says it is less than 1 km from downtown. Wikivoyage describes the centre as surrounded by mountains, with a cool climate, high rainfall and frequent morning fog.

Choose it if: You want a base on foot to the market, restaurants and the clock tower, and day trips by car or driver.

Skip it if: You want to be next to a sea-of-mist viewpoint or the Piyamit tunnel; no checked hotel is there.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume the sights are close; the tunnel, hot spring and skywalk are outside the centre and need a car or driver.

Examples of established Yala hotels, spread across areas and budget bands. Every fact below was checked against the hotel's own website or a reputable source on 2026-10-19 and links to that source. We have not stayed at these places and give no ratings; we show no prices because rates change daily. The band is the property class (hostel or guesthouse, mid-range, upscale), not a live price.

Day trips and planning from Betong

We have no registered tour listing for Betong or Yala yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search. It is an affiliate link: if you book through it we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and results may be limited. Ask your hotel first, since some arrange day trips themselves.

Getting to Betong

Most visitors reach Betong by train or bus to Yala and then a van or taxi of about 140 km, or by road from Hat Yai. A small plane has been reported between Hat Yai and Betong, but we could not confirm it is flying now. We opened the 12Go Bangkok to Yala page in a browser on 16 Oct 2026 and recorded 8 departures; check the operator and times for your date before you book. Our Yala guide covers the route, the border and a 1-2 day plan.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • All four sites show no prices, and their footers say 2016 or 2017, so confirm rooms, rates and availability with the hotel.
  • Betong Merlin's site advertises a night club (X-Zone) in the building in front of the hotel, open every day from 10 pm till late; ask for a quiet room if you want to sleep early.
  • Butterfly Princess is a one-page site with no room details; call the number it gives before relying on it.
  • Insurance: FCDO says your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against its advice, and Yala Province is named in that advice. Check the wording of your policy and medical evacuation cover before you pay for non-refundable rooms.

FAQ

Where should I stay in Betong?

All four hotels on this list are in or near the town centre, so pick by size and budget. Grand Mandarin and Betong Merlin are the larger hotels, Cathay is the budget one, and Butterfly Princess lists free parking. The cards show what each hotel says on its own site.

Is there a checked hotel in Yala city?

No. The Yala tourism office lists hotels in the city with phone numbers or Facebook pages, but we found no official website with readable text, so none is listed. Note that yalahotel.com is a resort in Yala National Park in Sri Lanka, not Thailand.

Why are only four hotels listed?

We list hotels only when their own website opened and could be quoted. Betong municipality lists dozens of lodgings, but almost all give only Facebook pages or phone numbers. This is a checked list, not a complete one, and three of the four share one group website.

Which Betong hotel is the biggest?

Grand Mandarin Betong Hotel says it has 266 guest rooms and a ballroom for over 122 Chinese round tables. Betong Merlin says 189 rooms and Cathay says 99.

Which hotel mentions free parking?

Butterfly Princess says free parking. The Mandarin group's sites list car parks, with Grand Mandarin listing indoor and outdoor car parks.

Is the area near the hotels safe?

We cannot say. The UK advises against all but essential travel to Yala Province and Canada advises avoiding all travel, while the US lists Yala at Level 2. None of those pages names Betong separately. Read the Yala guide, check the live advisory pages and your insurance before booking.

Is there a hotel at the Piyamit tunnel or the skywalk?

We found none with an official website with readable text. The tunnel and the viewpoints are day trips from Betong town, and the hot spring and a few lodgings near them are listed by the tourism offices without official sites.

How far is Betong from Yala city?

Thai Wikipedia gives about 140 km by road, and vans or taxis take about 2 hours. We could not confirm current flight service to Betong airport, so plan the road or rail route.
