Trang is an Andaman-coast province where the town and the beaches are two different trips. The town has the railway station, the airport and the famous dim sum breakfasts, while the islands (Koh Mook, Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai) are reached by boat from Pak Meng Pier, about 45 minutes by road from the airport according to one resort. This page compares five areas: Trang town, the Pak Meng coast on the mainland, Koh Mook, Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai. Koh Ngai is in Krabi province on the resorts' own websites, but almost every guest arrives through Trang, so we include it.
Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. We could not find a working official site for any hotel on Koh Libong or Koh Sukorn, so those islands have no hotel cards. This is a checked list, not a complete one.
How to choose
- Decide first whether you want the town or the sea. In Trang town you can reach the station, the bus terminal and the airport in 5 to 15 minutes according to Rua Rasada, but the nearest island boat is at a pier about 30 minutes away, says HOP INN. On an island you need a boat on arrival and departure day.
- Check the season before you pick an island. The TAT newsroom lists the Hat Chao Mai islands Muk, Morakot, Kradan, Chueak and Waen as closed from 1 June to 30 September, while one Thai travel-information site cites a 2026 announcement with different dates for Koh Mook. CoCo Cottage lists October to mid-May as its operating period and Cliff Beach warns that monsoon-season services may be limited. Confirm the exact dates with your hotel and the park.
- Plan the transfer. Thanya says the road from the airport to Pak Meng Pier is about 45 minutes and the longtail boat to Koh Ngai about 45 minutes more, and advises morning arrivals because the sea can be choppy in the afternoon. Several resorts run their own pickups, so tell them your flight or train time before you pay.

- How you arrive
- 5 to 15 minutes from the station, bus terminal and airport, per Rua Rasada
Rua Rasada says it is a 4-star hotel with a cruise-shaped design that takes 5 to 15 minutes from the bus terminal, railway station and airport. HOP INN sits on Phetkasem Road in the city and says the island pier is about 30 minutes away, while Sit Dharma Guesthouse is a garden guesthouse 5 kilometres from the town. Wikipedia says Trang is known for a local dim sum breakfast culture and roasted pork, so mornings in town are worth a slot.
Choose it if: You arrive by train, bus or flight and want one easy night before or after the islands.
Skip it if: You want a beach outside your door; the sea needs a boat from a pier.
Mistake to avoid: Do not assume the pier is next door; HOP INN says about 30 minutes, and island boats still have their own times.

Choose it if: You want to sleep on the mainland beside the pier, with island tours sold by your hotel.
Skip it if: You want an island beach outside your door.
Mistake to avoid: Do not expect island beaches on your doorstep; this is a mainland stay and every island needs a boat on the day.

Sivalai Beach Resort says Koh Mook is part of Hat Chao Mai National Park and sits 9 kilometres off the coast of mainland Trang, with calm white-sand beaches on the east including Hua Laem Beach where the resort stands. The resort lists beaches on both sides of its peninsula and says the island is small enough to explore by motorbike, bicycle or on foot. A TAT-sourced April 2026 news item says Morakot Cave lets visitors swim through a cave to a hidden inner beach.
Choose it if: You want a quiet villa stay and the Emerald Cave as a day trip.
Skip it if: You want many hotels to compare; we could verify only one here.
Mistake to avoid: Check the closure dates: the TAT newsroom table and a Thai travel-information site give different dates for the Koh Mook area and the cave.

Kalume says it is renovating its bungalows until 20 October 2026.
Choose it if: You want a small beach resort, snorkelling and few other visitors outside the peak months.
Skip it if: You want shops, an ATM or nightlife; we could not verify any on the island.
Mistake to avoid: The Seven Seas' Best Beach in the World 2023 wording is its own claim, and the island is in a national park with a seasonal closure listed by TAT.

Getting to Trang
Trang is reached by train, bus or plane, and the islands then need a boat from a mainland pier such as Pak Meng. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Trang page, which listed 15 companies and 27 departures a day when we opened it in a real browser on 16 October 2026. Check the departure point and the time before you book. Our Trang guide covers the airport, the station and the piers.

Before you book
- Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
- Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
- If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
- Ask whether the Koh Mook, Koh Kradan or Koh Ngai boat is included in your rate and what the hotel does if the sea is rough or a boat is cancelled.
- Plan for cash: CoCo Cottage says there are no banks and no ATMs on Koh Ngai, and we could not verify ATMs on the other islands.
FAQ
Where should I stay in Trang for the first time?
If you want the beaches, stay on an island: Koh Kradan for a small resort with kayaks or a reef, Koh Mook for a villa near the Emerald Cave, or Koh Ngai for a longer-established beach resort. If you only need a night near the station or airport, Rua Rasada, HOP INN or Sit Dharma are in or near Trang town.
Is Koh Ngai in Trang or Krabi?
Wikipedia says Ko Ngai is an island in Krabi Province that can better be reached via Trang Province, and the Thanya and Cliff Beach websites both give Krabi as the province. Boats to it usually leave from Pak Meng Pier in Trang, which is why we list it here.
How do I get to the islands?
By boat from a mainland pier. Thanya says the drive from Trang Airport to Pak Meng Pier is about 45 minutes and the longtail ride to Koh Ngai about 45 minutes. The Seven Seas says Trang town and airport are about 1.5 hours from Koh Kradan. Ask your hotel which pier and time it uses.
Are the islands open all year?
Not fully. The TAT newsroom closure table lists Muk, Morakot, Kradan, Chueak and Waen as closed from 1 June to 30 September, while a Thai travel-information site cites a 2026 announcement with other dates for Koh Mook and the Emerald Cave. CoCo Cottage lists October to mid-May as its operating period. Check the park and your hotel before booking.
Is there a train to Trang?
Yes. Wikipedia says Trang is one of the southern destinations with trains to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. A resort page gives about 12 to 14 hours overnight, while the 12Go route page we opened in a real browser says 15 to 16 hours over 830 km, so treat the time as roughly half a day to a night.
Why are there no Koh Libong or Koh Sukorn hotels?
We could not find a working official website for any hotel there, and our rule is that a hotel needs one we can read and check. Wikipedia says Ko Libong is known for dugongs and has a few resorts on its west coast beaches, but we did not list any.
Can I stay in Trang town and visit the islands as day trips?
Yes, but check the pier distance. HOP INN says its hotel is near the pier and the trip takes about 30 minutes, and Pakmeng Resort sells island day-trip packages. Boats and the national park follow seasonal rules, so confirm tours with the operator.
Why are there no hotel prices?
No. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type. Use the booking buttons to search your own dates.
