Nakhon Si Thammarat is a long province on the Gulf of Thailand, and where you sleep depends on what you came for. The city, around Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, suits temple visits and onward bus, train or flight connections. Khiriwong village sits at the foot of Khao Luang, about 20 km from the city according to one guide. Khanom and Sichon are the beach areas on the coast to the north-east, facing Koh Samui. This page compares those four areas and lists 12 hotels.
Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Each card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website, checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Facts we could not re-find were removed. Most Khiriwong homestays have no website we could read, so only one is listed there; this is a checked list, not a complete one.
How to choose
- Decide the purpose first. For the old city and the temple, stay in the city. For mountain air, streams and fruit orchards, stay at Khiriwong. For a beach, go to Khanom or Sichon, but note that the hotels there say the airport is far: Khanom Beach Resort gives 88 km and about 1 hour 12 minutes by car.
- Plan transport before you choose. City hotels give 16.43 km (Grand Fortune) or about 17 km (HOP INN) to the airport. The beach resorts on the coast are better with a transfer or a hired car, and one resort says its transfer rate depends on where you are picked up.
- Check the season and opening dates. One park guide says Khao Luang National Park is closed from 1 October to 15 December each year and that summit hiking is possible from January to September; we could not confirm this on a government page, so ask the park or your host before you plan a trek.

- About 16 to 17 km from the airport, per two hotels
Six hotels here are on a Mueang address or call themselves city-centre. Grand Fortune gives about 2.5 km to Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan and 16.43 km to the airport; HOP INN gives about 17 km to the airport and lists the temple, Sanam Na Mueang park and a viewpoint as nearby. Navakitel is a design hotel with local materials, Twin Lotus and Grand Park are larger hotels, and Hotel Scarlett combines a cafe and bar with rooms.
Choose it if: You came for the temple and the old city, or need bus, train or flight connections.
Skip it if: You want a beach or a mountain village, which are an hour or more away.
Mistake to avoid: Do not assume the hotel is walkable to the temple; only Grand Fortune gives a distance and that is 2.5 km.

- About 20 km from the city, per one guide; no scheduled transport all the way
Kiriwong Riverview says it is a six-room, resort-style stay in a fruit orchard beside a clear stream, with its own Krua Lamnga restaurant serving southern Thai food. Thai Holiday Guide says the village is about 20 km from the provincial capital, that trekking up Khao Luang must start here, and that longkong and mangosteen harvests run July to September. Pattaya Mail reported in March 2026 that the Ministry of Culture named the village one of Thailand's top 10 model communities for community-based tourism.
Choose it if: You want mountain air, orchards and a stay close to the Khao Luang trailhead.
Skip it if: You want a hotel with a pool, a large restaurant or an airport shuttle.
Mistake to avoid: Do not plan a trek without checking the park: one guide says the park is closed from 1 October to 15 December.

Khanom Hill Resort is a family-run resort with 15 bungalows and apartments between two beaches, and one apartment is described with a view over the bay and Koh Samui. Wikipedia describes Hat Khanom as the beaches of Khanom district within a national park that also covers Sichon.
Choose it if: You want a quiet beach stay with a pool or private-pool villa and will use a transfer or car.
Skip it if: You want to be near the old city, restaurants and buses.

Wikipedia lists Wat Chedi Ai Khai, an ancient temple more than 1,000 years old, among the district's sights.
Choose it if: You want a smaller, quieter beach than Khanom and a pool or sea-view room.
Skip it if: You want to be near the city or the airport.

Before you book
- Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
- Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
- If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
- Ask whether the hotel runs an airport or station transfer. Grand Fortune ties its free airport transfer to a van schedule and Khanom Beach Resort prices its transfer by pick-up location.
- Do not assume every beach hotel is close to town. Khanom and Sichon are separate coastal areas, and the hotels there are away from the city and the airport.
FAQ
Where should I stay in Nakhon Si Thammarat?
For temples and transport, stay in the city (Mueang); the Grand Fortune page gives about 2.5 km to Wat Phra Mahathat. For mountain air and orchards, look at Khiriwong. For a beach, look at Khanom or Sichon. The cards below show what each hotel says on its own site.
Is it better to stay in the city or at Khanom?
It depends on the trip. The city is for the old city, temple and buses. Khanom is a beach area about 88 km and over an hour by car from the airport, according to Khanom Beach Resort. Many visitors split the stay between the two.
Is there a hotel in Khiriwong with its own website?
We found one: Kiriwong Riverview, a six-room stay in a fruit orchard. Other Khiriwong homestays and resorts appeared only on booking or listing sites, so we left them out because we could not check their facts on an official page.
How far is the airport from the city hotels?
Grand Fortune gives 16.43 km and HOP INN says about 17 km, roughly 20 minutes. Both are the hotels' own figures.
How do I get to Nakhon Si Thammarat from Bangkok?
Opened in a real browser on 16 October 2026, the 12Go page for Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat listed 9 companies including Thai Railway, Nok Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air, 7 departures a day, a distance of 679 km, and times from 6:00 AM to 7:10 PM. We do not quote fares because they change daily.
Can I visit Khao Luang National Park right now?
A park guide says the park is closed from 1 October to 15 December every year, so it may be closed in late October and November. We could not confirm this on an official page, so ask the park office or your host before you go.
Is Wat Phra Mahathat a World Heritage Site?
Wikipedia lists it as a UNESCO World Heritage Site designated in 2026 (reference 1761). We could not open the UNESCO page itself, so check unesco.org for the listing.
Why are there no hotel prices on this page?
Rates change with dates, room type and cancellation terms, and we have no current verified source. The booking buttons open a search for your own dates.
