Phrae is a small northern town on the Yom River, known for teak houses, hilltop temples and indigo cloth. Most places to sleep sit in the town centre within a short ride of the old town, and one rural stay sits among rice fields. This page covers three areas and eight hotels. It is a short list on purpose: we only list hotels whose own website we could open and quote.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Several well-known Phrae hotels sell only through booking sites or Facebook, or have sites that no longer open, so this is a checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Decide whether you want to walk or drive. The old-town hotels put you within a short walk or ride of the teak houses and the night market; Phae Mueang Phi and Phra That Cho Hae are a drive from anywhere in Phrae.
  2. Match the stay to your arrival. Phrae Airport has Nok Air flights from Don Mueang; HOP INN says it is about 6 minutes from the airport and Phoomthai Garden says 15 minutes. Buses arrive at the provincial bus station and trains stop at Den Chai, 24 km away.
  3. Check the hotel's own page for gaps. Several sites here are short, one still shows a 2016 promotion and some give no address, so confirm rooms, rates and location by phone or message before you pay for a non-refundable room.

Six hotels here: Hug Inn Phrae, which says it is a few minutes' walk to the old town, the large Maeyom Palace and Phrae Nakara, Phoomthai Garden with its Lanna teak styling, Amonruk Hotel, and HOP INN Phrae near Pratu Chai. Wikipedia says Khum Chao Luang was built in 1892 as the royal residence of the chao luang, and Wikivoyage lists Wongburi House as an old teak house.

Choose it if: You want to walk or cycle to the teak houses, temples and food, and use the hotel's pool or restaurant in the evening.

Skip it if: You want a swimming-and-sand holiday or a remote rural setting.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume every central hotel is walkable to every sight; Phae Mueang Phi and Wat Phra That Cho Hae are a drive from anywhere in town.

B2 Phrae Boutique & Budget Hotel says it is in the shopping, restaurant and culture area of Phrae and lists Wat Chom Sawan at 3.3 km, Phae Mueang Phi at 12.2 km and Wat Phra That Cho Hae at 13.6 km. It lists 24-hour reception, free Wi-Fi and a large secured car park.

Choose it if: You are driving, want a modern chain room with parking, and are happy to drive into the old town for dinner.

Skip it if: You want to walk to the night market and the temples.

Mistake to avoid: Do not read the hotel's listed distances as walking distances; they are driving distances from its door.

SuanGlangNa (Bunny's Teak House) gives its address in Suan Khuean, Mueang Phrae, and says it sits among working rice fields along a scenic mountain range, with Bunny's Steakhouse on site. Day trips and planning from Phrae

We have no registered tour listing for Phrae yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Phrae, which currently earns us nothing, and results may be limited. Several hotels here can arrange cycling or drives, so ask your hotel first.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Phrae

Phrae has a small airport with Nok Air flights from Don Mueang, a provincial bus station, and a railway station 24 km away at Den Chai. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Phrae page, which on 16 October 2026 listed train, bus, van, flight and taxi options from operators including Budsarakham Tour, Kim Transfers, Nok Air, Thai Railway and Torch, with 7 departures a day, the earliest at 7:50 AM and the latest at 10:30 PM. The page showed 575 km, while Wikipedia gives 555 km by road; we do not quote fares. Our Phrae guide covers the airport, the bus and the train.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Distances to the main sights differ by source. Wikipedia puts Phra That Cho Hae about nine kilometres south-east of the city, while B2 lists 13.6 km from its own door, so ask your hotel for the driving time rather than relying on one figure.
  • Phrae is quiet in the evening. Check whether your hotel serves dinner (Phoomthai Garden lists a restaurant, Maeyom Palace lists two kitchens, SuanGlangNa has its own restaurant) before you assume you can eat late.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Phrae?

Start with the old town. Hug Inn Phrae says it is a few minutes' walk to the old town and lends bikes, and the large Maeyom Palace and Phoomthai Garden are in the town centre. If you have a car and want rice fields and mountain views, look at SuanGlangNa.

Is Phrae walkable?

The old town is small enough to walk or cycle, and several hotels here lend bikes. The big sights, Phae Mueang Phi and Wat Phra That Cho Hae, are a drive away, so plan a taxi, a rented vehicle or a tour.

How do I get from the airport to the town?

The hotels give airport times of about 6 minutes (HOP INN) to 15 minutes (Phoomthai Garden). Ask your hotel whether it runs a pick-up before you book a taxi.

Do I need a car in Phrae?

Not for the old town, but for Phae Mueang Phi, Phra That Cho Hae, Wiang Kosai National Park and any rural stay a car or a hired driver makes the days much easier.

Which Phrae hotels have a pool?

Maeyom Palace lists an outdoor pool open 8:00 to 20:00. Phoomthai Garden lists a garden terrace bar and a restaurant but we found no pool on its pages. Confirm any facility with the hotel.

Why are some well-known Phrae hotels not listed?

We only list hotels whose own website we could open and quote. Several Phrae hotels sell only through booking sites or Facebook pages, and a few sites would not open for us, so we left them out rather than guess.

Can I bring a dog?

SuanGlangNa says it has one pet-friendly room, which also has the only television. Confirm the rules and any fee with the hotel.

When is the best time to visit Phrae?

Wikipedia's climate table shows the driest months are December to February (about 11 to 13 mm a month) and the wettest is August (about 239 mm). The hot season peaks in April. Check the forecast for your dates.
