Phetchabun is a province in northern Thailand. Most visitors who come for the mist and the viewpoints stay in the hills of Khao Kho district, on the high ridge of Phu Thap Boek, or in Phetchabun town. A national-parks guide says there is no public transport to Khao Kho from nearby towns, so the area you pick decides how much driving you do. This page compares those three areas and lists 12 hotels. Lom Sak and Nam Nao have no hotel here because we could not find a hotel there with an official website we could verify.

Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. We looked for more hotels, but some official sites could not be found or opened, so this is a checked list, not a complete one.

How to choose

  1. Decide between views and a base. Khao Kho and Phu Thap Boek are for mist, viewpoints and quiet nights, and you will need a car or a driver; Phetchabun town is for shops, restaurants and an easy stop, and it is where the 12Go bus route from Bangkok ends.
  2. Pick the area for the trip you want. Khao Kho district has seven hotels on this list, from small houses to large resorts; Phu Thap Boek has cliff-edge glass houses; Phetchabun town has three simple hotels. One town hotel gives Khao Kho as 48 km away.
  3. Plan the arrival. Two sources disagree on public transport: a national-parks guide says there is none to Khao Kho from nearby towns, while The Blue Sky Resort says you can take a bus to Lom Sak and then a local songtaew to the resort. Ask your hotel how guests really arrive, and expect heavy traffic at weekends and holidays.

Drive; one resort says Phitsanulok airport is about 120 km away, and a guide says there is no public transport from nearby towns

Seven of the 12 hotels are in Khao Kho district. A national-parks guide says the area is popular for cooler weather, morning mist over the valleys, viewpoints, a large wind farm and temples. Rom Karavek says its room 401 has a side view of the wind turbines and a front balcony facing mountains and the sea of mist. Khaokho Boutique Resort has a Mini Pool House with its own small pool, and Khaokho Resort offers 13 room types and houses for up to 24 guests. Grand Kokkod and The Blue Sky are the larger resorts, and Khokirin and De'Mhok are small, with 10 houses and 4 houses respectively.

Choose it if: You want the viewpoints, the wind farm and a mountain resort, and you are driving.

Skip it if: You want to walk to restaurants and shops, or to travel only by bus.

Mistake to avoid: Do not promise yourself a sea of mist. One resort page says it is normally seen on days without strong wind, and another says you need luck and no wind.

Drive; we found no verified bus to the ridge

Two hotels here are on the Phu Thap Boek ridge. Wimanmek says it is above the sea of mist at more than 1,500 m and lists 11 cliff-edge glass houses for 2 guests, with a bigger VIP glass house for 4 and modern houses that are not on the cliff edge. Ruedukan describes minimalist glass houses with a 180-degree view of the sea of mist and sunrise, plus three basic houses. Wikipedia describes Phu Thap Boek as about 1,794 m high, with farms on its slopes and Hmong villagers, but adds that its own article mixes up two nearby mountains, so treat its height with care.

Choose it if: You want to wake up above the clouds and you are happy to drive up a mountain road.

Skip it if: You want to be near restaurants and shops, or you do not like heights and narrow roads.

Mistake to avoid: Do not treat glass-house photos as a guarantee of mist. Check each hotel's own booking channel too: Ruedukan's home page says not to book through its Facebook page.

12Go bus route from Bangkok ends here; Khao Kho is a further drive (one hotel says 48 km)

Three hotels are in Phetchabun town. Feung Fah Litz says restaurants, bars and cafes are within walking distance, that every room has a balcony with a city view, that Khao Kho is 48 km away and Tat Mok National Park 17.2 km away. A Day In Phetchabun calls itself a boutique hotel with breakfast in the heart of town and says there are no baby cots or extra beds. HOP INN Phetchabun says it suits stopovers and overnight stays before heading to the mountains.

Choose it if: You arrive by bus or want a simple, walkable town base with shops nearby.

Skip it if: You want to wake up inside the hills for the mist.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume Khao Kho is next door; it is a separate drive, 48 km according to one hotel.

Day trips and planning from Phetchabun

We have no registered tour listing for Phetchabun yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Phetchabun, which currently earns us nothing, and the results may be limited. Many resorts in Khao Kho and on Phu Thap Boek arrange local rides and viewpoint trips, so ask your hotel first.

Getting to Phetchabun and Khao Kho

The 12Go page for Bangkok to Phetchabun, opened in a real browser on 16 October 2026, listed three companies (12Go Transport, Thailand Limo by Datum and Transport Co), 10 departures a day, a distance of 300 km, an earliest departure of 8:00 AM, a latest of 10:00 AM and a fastest time of 6 hours. The route goes to Phetchabun city; Khao Kho and Phu Thap Boek are separate drives. Confirm the departure point and times before you book. Our Phetchabun guide covers the drives and the seasons.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Mist depends on wind. A Khao Kho hotel page says the sea of mist can normally be seen on days without strong wind, and The Blue Sky Resort says you need luck and no wind. Do not book only for the mist.
  • Nam Nao National Park, about 50 km east of Lom Sak according to an independent park guide, says it closes for a month in June each year; confirm with the park before you plan a night there.
  • Several hotels have strict house rules: Khaokho Boutique Resort and A Day In Phetchabun do not allow pets, and Rom Karavek limits guest numbers and bars outside visitors. Read the rules page before you pay a deposit.

FAQ

Where should I stay for the Khao Kho sea of mist?

Stay in Khao Kho district or on Phu Thap Boek rather than in Phetchabun town, because the views are on the ridges. Rom Karavek describes a balcony facing mountains and the sea of mist, De'Mhok promises a panoramic sea-of-mist view from the front of the room, and Wimanmek and Ruedukan describe glass houses on the Phu Thap Boek ridge. Mist is not guaranteed: one hotel says it is normally seen on days without strong wind.

Is there public transport to Khao Kho?

Sources disagree. A national-parks guide says there are no public transport options to Khao Kho from any of the nearby towns and that getting around needs a car. The Blue Sky Resort says you can take a bus to Lom Sak and then a local songtaew to the resort. Ask your hotel before relying on either, and consider a hire car or driver.

How do I get to Phetchabun from Bangkok?

The 12Go page for Bangkok to Phetchabun lists three companies (12Go Transport, Thailand Limo by Datum and Transport Co), 10 departures a day, a distance of 300 km and a fastest time of 6 hours, as we saw it in a browser on 16 October 2026. The route ends in Phetchabun city, not in Khao Kho or Phu Thap Boek, which are separate drives. The Blue Sky Resort says driving from Bangkok to Khao Kho takes about 6 hours.

When is the best time to visit Khao Kho?

A Khao Kho hotel page describes three seasons: winter from November to February, with cold mornings and nights, a rainy season from July to October with an average of 19 to 29 degrees, and a hot season from March to June. A national-parks guide says to bring warm clothes in November and December, and that Khao Kho is very busy at weekends and holidays. Check a forecast for your dates.

Are there hotels in Lom Sak or near Nam Nao National Park on this page?

No. We looked for hotels in Lom Sak, but the places we found had no official hotel website we could verify, so we left them out rather than guess. An independent park guide says Nam Nao has park accommodation booked through the Department of National Parks and that its online booking has been unreliable, so ask the park directly.

Is Phu Hin Rong Kla part of Phetchabun?

Sources disagree. Wikipedia's Phu Hin Rong Kla page lists the park in Loei and Phitsanulok provinces, while its Phu Thap Boek page says the park surrounds that mountain and overlaps Phitsanulok and Phetchabun, and flags that it mixes up two nearby mountains. We do not list the park as a Phetchabun attraction; check a map before you plan the drive.

Which hotels here allow pets?

Two say no: Khaokho Boutique Resort and A Day In Phetchabun both say pets are not allowed. For the others we did not find a pet rule on the pages we read, so ask before you bring an animal.

Why are there no prices on this page?

Rates change with dates, room type and season, and we have no verified live source. The booking buttons open a search for your own dates, and some of our links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.
