Phitsanulok is the lower-north city that most people use as a base for Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat (Wat Yai) and the Phra Buddha Chinnarat, and as the closest city to Sukhothai and the Phu Hin Rong Kla and Thung Salaeng Luang national parks. The city is small enough that the choice is simple: stay in the centre near the river and the night market, stay at a resort-style hotel in the city, stay on a main road if you drive, or stay out on the road east.
Use the quick answer above, then the area table. We show no hotel prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the booking buttons open a search for your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these hotels. Every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026 after a separate verification pass, with the source linked. Many Phitsanulok hotels have only a Facebook page or a booking-site listing, so this is a checked list of 10, not a complete one.
How to choose
- Decide whether you want to walk. If you do, stay in the centre: the Grand Riverside Hotel says the night market is 200 metres away and Wat Yai 1 km, and Topland says Wat Yai is about an 8-minute walk. Every other area needs a taxi, a tuk-tuk or your own car.
- Decide how you arrive. The railway station is in the city and, by Wikipedia, there are more than a dozen trains in each direction each day; Topland and the Grand Riverside both say the station is a few minutes away. If you arrive by air or drive, the airport-side roads put you 10 to 20 minutes from the terminal on the hotels' own figures.
- Plan the day trips before you book. Sukhothai is about 60 km west, Phu Hin Rong Kla about 80 to 100 km east and the Thung Salaeng Luang park lies on the road east. The Grand Riverside lists the distances on its site, and U Phitsanulok is on Highway 12, the road east. If a national park is the main point, ask the hotel about an early start.

Four hotels here: the Grand Riverside Hotel on the Nan River with the night market 200 metres away by its own figure, Topland Hotel with Wat Yai about an 8-minute walk, The Park Hotel in the night market district, and HOP INN Phitsanulok near Wat Yai and Chan Royal Palace. Wikivoyage says only a few of the river's houseboats are left and some work as restaurants and cafes. The photo shows the Nan River, not a hotel.
Choose it if: You want to walk to the temple, the river and food, and keep the station close.
Skip it if: You want a garden pool or a quiet road east.
Mistake to avoid: Do not assume every central hotel is within a short walk of Wat Yai; the distances differ, so compare them on the map.

Pattara Resort and Spa calls itself a forest in the city, with rooms around an infinite pool, a lotus pond and a garden, and villas with a private pool. The Imperial Hotel and Convention Centre lists a free-form pool, an in-house massage service and a fitness room, and a book-direct benefit of two children staying free. The photo shows Wat Yai, not either hotel.
Choose it if: You want a pool and garden between sightseeing trips and are happy to take a taxi.
Skip it if: You want to walk to the night market from your door.
Mistake to avoid: Both hotels have meetings or events; ask about the event schedule if you want a quiet stay.

HOP INN Phitsanulok Mittraphap Road says it is on a major road with several restaurants nearby and about 20 minutes from the airport. The photo shows Phitsanulok railway station, not either hotel.
Choose it if: You are driving or landing at the airport and want an easy start and finish.
Skip it if: You want to walk to Wat Yai.
Mistake to avoid: Neither page gives a walking distance to the old-city sights, so plan for a taxi.

- The Zense says 20 minutes by car from the airport
The Zense Boutique Hotel says it is on the outskirts in a quiet area, with a saltwater pool and an EV charger. U Phitsanulok lists modern rooms and standalone lakefront chalets with private bathtubs, a restaurant open from 6 am, and its Thai page puts it on Highway 12. Its offer pages describe special opening rates, so it appears to be new. The photo shows the Lan Hin Pum rock field at Phu Hin Rong Kla, not either hotel.
Choose it if: You are driving, want a pool or lakeside chalet and plan a day at the parks.
Skip it if: You rely on taxis or want the old city on your doorstep.
Mistake to avoid: Do not read 'in the heart of Phitsanulok' on U Phitsanulok's page as walkable to Wat Yai; confirm the location on the map.

Getting to Phitsanulok
Phitsanulok has an airport, a railway station in the city and bus terminals. The button opens the 12Go Bangkok to Phitsanulok page, which we opened in a real browser on 16 October 2026; its title lists train, bus, van, flight and taxi, and its editorial text says the city is about 380 km north of Bangkok, the train arrives in the centre while most buses use the Bo-Ko-So terminal out of town. We quote no fares from it. Check the arrival terminal before you book. Our Phitsanulok guide covers the sights and the national parks.

Before you book
- Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
- Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
- If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
- Several hotel sites on this page carry copyright lines from 2022 or earlier, and one chain site returned errors on its sub pages, so confirm current rooms, rates and policies by phone or message before you book a non-refundable room.
- Hotels that mention a restaurant, karaoke or event hall often share a building with it. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the events floor. We could not verify noise levels for any hotel.
FAQ
Where should first-time visitors stay in Phitsanulok?
For Wat Yai and the river, start in the centre: the Grand Riverside Hotel gives the night market as 200 metres and Wat Yai as 1 km, and Topland says Wat Yai is about an 8-minute walk. If you want a pool and garden, look at Pattara Resort and Spa.
Is it better to stay in Phitsanulok or in Sukhothai?
It depends on the trip. Phitsanulok is a city with trains, a bus terminal and an airport, and Wikivoyage puts Sukhothai about an hour away by bus. Sukhothai is better if the historical park is the whole trip; Phitsanulok is better if you also want Wat Yai, the Nan River and the national parks.
Which hotel is closest to Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat (Wat Yai)?
By the hotels' own words, Topland gives about an 8-minute walk and the Grand Riverside gives 1 km, a 15-minute walk. The Park Hotel says 5 minutes by taxi, Pattara and the HOP INN pages do not give a walking distance, so check the map.
Can I stay near Phu Hin Rong Kla or Thung Salaeng Luang?
We could not find a hotel in or near those parks with a readable official site, so none is listed. U Phitsanulok sits on Highway 12, the road east, and the Grand Riverside gives Phu Hin Rong Kla as 100 km, about a 1.5-hour drive. Check park accommodation with the national park office.
Do the hotels have airport transfers?
Some say so. The Grand Riverside's home page lists airport transfers among its features; the Zense says it is 20 minutes by car from the airport and that a shuttle service runs to nearby areas. Ask each hotel what the transfer costs and when it runs.
How do I get from Bangkok to Phitsanulok?
By train, bus, van or flight. The 12Go page for Bangkok to Phitsanulok, which we opened in a real browser on 16 October 2026, is titled by train, bus, van, flight, taxi. Wikipedia gives the station as 389.291 km from Bangkok. Check the arrival terminal before you book.
Why are some well-known Phitsanulok hotels not listed?
We only list hotels whose own website we could open and quote. Several well-known hotels sell only through booking sites or Facebook pages, some sites are blocked to our checker and a few domains no longer show a hotel, so we left them out rather than guess.
Do prices include breakfast?
Not unless the hotel says so. We quote no prices; some of the hotels print rates or offers on their own pages, which change. Ask what is included before you pay.
