Choosing a Sanya hotel is easier if you start with the bay. Yalong Bay is a dedicated resort district, Haitang Bay is near the duty-free mall and Wuzhizhou Island, Dadonghai and Sanya Bay are close to the city, and Luhuitou is a quiet resort stretch to the south. This page compares those areas and 12 hotels whose details we checked against each hotel's own site on 16 October 2026. Ten are Accor hotels and two are the Mandarin Oriental and Rosewood. Three are mid-range and nine are upscale. We have not stayed at any of them. We did not check budget hotels in this round, so none are listed. Which bay first?
Our suggestion, not official: choose Yalong Bay if you want a relaxed beach resort, Haitang Bay if duty free and Wuzhizhou Island are the plan, and Sanya Bay or Dadonghai if you have little time and want to walk in the city. If you stay several nights you could split between two bays, but allow for the transfer, because Haitang Bay and Yalong Bay are on different sides of the city. China Highlights' guide also splits Sanya into seven bays and describes Sanya Bay as the most convenient, with value-for-money hotels. Lonely Planet says Dadonghai is where most foreign travellers stay and that Yalong Bay has the first-rate beach and the plush international resorts.
Getting to your hotel
From Sanya Phoenix Airport (SYX)
Wikivoyage says the airport is about 14 km from the city centre, with bus 8 into town, and gives roughly 45 minutes to Yalong Bay and 35 minutes to Haitang Bay (not official). We have no official transfer fare, so ask the hotel about shuttles before you book.
From the railway stations
Wikivoyage says Sanya railway station is about 7 km from the centre, and that there are separate Yalong Bay and Yazhou stations. Check the station on your ticket before you book a transfer.

Lonely Planet's page is a destination hub. This page gives 12 hotels with the distances their own sites state, marks where a site gives none, and flags the Pullman renovation.
