The Leshan Giant Buddha is a Buddha carved out of a red cliff above a river in Leshan, south of Chengdu, and it works as a day trip. The scenic area's management committee announced a mountain-walk ticket of CNY 80 per person and a river boat ticket of CNY 70, with different hours in summer and winter. The notice we use is dated 30 December 2024. We found no later notice changing prices when we looked on 16 and 17 October 2026, so we call it "the latest notice we could read" and recommend you check the sales channel before you go. We did not visit Leshan for this page.
This page covers Leshan only. For the city, see the Chengdu travel guide; for hotels, where to stay in Chengdu. Entry rules and payments are on the China hub. For a farther nature trip see Jiuzhaigou, and for pandas in the city, the Panda Base.

Tickets and hours (checked 16 and 17 October 2026)
From the notice titled "buy tickets on the official channels", dated 30 December 2024, written in Chinese. We translated the figures. The official domain does not open from our network, so we read the Internet Archive copy of the same notice and re-opened it on 17 October 2026.
| Item | Price | Season and hours, per the notice |
|---|---|---|
| Mountain walk (day ticket) | CNY 80 per ticket | Summer (1 April to 7 October) 07:30 to 18:30. Winter (8 October to 31 March) 08:00 to 17:30 |
| River boat to view the Buddha (day) | CNY 70 per ticket | 1 April to 7 October 07:30 to 18:00. 8 October to 31 March 08:00 to 17:00. Boat times can change with water level and weather |
The date we checked falls in the winter period, so the mountain walk is open 08:00 to 17:30.
- Children on the boat: children under 1.2 m ride free but must collect a free ticket in person at a ticket window.
- Boarding piers: Jiazhou, Wuyou Temple and Baxian Cave piers, per the notice, subject to temporary notices.
- Boat refunds: boat tickets bought online and not used can be refunded on the day of purchase. After that they cannot.
- Health note: the notice says visitors with high blood pressure or heart disease should travel with a companion.
Free and half-price groups
Examples from the notice, not a full list.
| Group | Entitlement | Document |

| Children 1.2 m or under, or aged 6 and under | Free | ID or valid document |
| Aged 65 and over | Free | ID card or senior card |
| Aged 60 to 64 | Free on non-public-holiday days, half price on public holidays | ID card or senior card |
| Aged over 6 up to 18 | Half price | ID card or household register |
| Students up to undergraduate level | Half price | Proof as set out in the notice |
The notice names Chinese documents. Ask at the ticket window whether a foreign passport or student card can prove eligibility. We did not check this.
Where sources differ
| Source | Mountain walk | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Management committee notice (30 Dec 2024) | CNY 80 | 07:30 to 18:30 and 08:00 to 17:30 by season |
| Wikivoyage: Leshan | CNY 80 | 07:30 to 18:30 (1 April to 7 October), 08:00 to 17:30 otherwise |
Wikivoyage matches the notice on both. Some travel sites give other hours, such as 09:00 to 16:50, which we could not check against the notice. Follow the notice and the signs at the gate.
Where to buy
Per the notice, mountain tickets are sold at the north and south visitor-centre ticket windows, the West Gate and the South Gate, and online through the WeChat account named "Dafu Tourism" (大佛旅游) and Douyin. Boat tickets are sold at the north and south visitor centres during pier hours or through the same accounts. Phone numbers in the notice: tourism 0833-6116666, and price complaints 12315. If you buy a day tour from an overseas seller, the price including transport and a guide is the seller's. We checked whether foreigners can buy online and could not confirm it. Our fallback is the ticket window with your passport, and the number above to confirm first.

Getting there from Chengdu
What we could confirm from official and reference sources:
- Intercity train. The airport site says the Chengdu-Mianyang-Leshan intercity line runs via Chengdu East, Chengdu South and Shuangliu airport station to Leshan and Emeishan stations. We did not read a timetable or fare from 12306, so we show none. Check 12306 or your ticket app for your date.
- Bus from Chengdu. Wikivoyage lists a bus from Xinnanmen station taking about 2 hours for CNY 46, leaving every 30 minutes from 07:20 to 19:35. That is unofficial and may have changed.
- From Leshan station to the scenic area. We did not check bus lines or taxi fares. Use a map app or ask at the station.
For time on site, the notice gives no walking time. We suggest at least 3 to 4 hours if you walk down to the Buddha and queue (our own estimate). A day trip from Chengdu works if you leave early and return before dark.

Lingyun and Wuyou temples
Lingyun Temple and Wuyou Temple are in the same hill area as the Buddha (the photos below come from Wikimedia Commons). We did not check whether the CNY 80 ticket covers every temple and viewpoint. If a spot is sold separately, ask at the ticket window.

Option: see the Buddha from the river
The notice lists a day boat ticket for CNY 70. In our opinion the view from the river shows the cliff and the whole figure better than from close up. That is our view, not something from the notice.

Add-on: Mount Emei
Emei Shan is in Emeishan city near Leshan, and Emeishan station is at the end of the same rail line, per the airport site. The Mount Emei scenic area's own site did not open when we tried, so we have no official price or hours. The numbers below are Wikivoyage's and unofficial.
| Item | Wikivoyage figure | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Park entry | CNY 160, valid 2 days, reduced to CNY 110 from 15 December to 15 January | Unofficial, not checked with Emei |
| Bus from Xinnanmen, Chengdu | About 1 h 50 min, CNY 45, every 20 minutes 07:00 to 19:00 | Unofficial |
Wikivoyage and general sources say shuttle buses inside the mountain and cable cars are not included in the entry fee. We have no readable official source, so we show no prices. Check Emei's official channels before booking a tour.

How this guide compares
We opened KKday's Leshan day-tour page and Travel China Guide's Chengdu guide for comparison. The benchmarks give an overview and sell tours. They do not tabulate the mountain and boat fees, the two seasonal hours and the free and half-price groups from the management committee's own notice. This page does, says we read an archive copy, and marks the Emei figures as unofficial.
Links on this page and our earnings
The tour search buttons open the providers' own search pages. As of 17 October 2026 we have no registered affiliate link for Leshan and earn nothing from them yet. The scenic area sells tickets itself, through the channels listed above.
