Quick answer: where to stay in Phang Nga?

Choose an area first, then check the live rate for your dates.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Phang Nga is a province, not one town. It sits on the Andaman Sea to the west and Phang Nga Bay to the south, with Phuket across the Sarasin Bridge, and it has no airport of its own: the nearest is Phuket International Airport. That shapes every choice of base. This page covers three areas: the bay side around Takua Thung, Mueang Phang Nga and Thap Put; the islands of Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai; and the quieter coast of Takua Pa and Thai Mueang, including Koh Kho Khao, Bang Sak and Natai Beach. Khao Lak is also in Phang Nga, but it has its own guide, so we link to it instead of repeating it.

Use the quick answer above, then the table to compare areas. We show no prices because rates change with dates and room type, and the rate links open booking search with your own dates. We have not stayed at these hotels: every card shows facts taken from the hotel's own website and checked on 16 October 2026, after a separate verification pass. Facts that could not be re-found on the hotel's site were removed.

How to choose

  1. Decide what the trip is for. Karst views and Phang Nga Bay trips point to the bay side; a slow island stay points to Koh Yao; long quiet beaches north or south of Khao Lak point to Takua Pa and Thai Mueang. If you want the busiest beach strip with the most restaurants, read the Khao Lak guide instead.
  2. Plan the transfer from Phuket airport before you book. Bay-side hotels quote drives of roughly 40-55 minutes, Koh Yao needs a boat, and Koh Kho Khao villas quote around two hours; these are the hotels' own estimates.
  3. Compare the final rate with tax, breakfast, transfers and cancellation terms, and check seasonal closures, child and pet rules if they matter to you. One villa on this page says it closes from May to September.

Ao Phang Nga National Park covers parts of Mueang Phang Nga and Takua Thung districts. The hotels in this group sit in those districts or in nearby Thap Put: hillside stays in Khlong Khian near the Samet Nangshe viewpoint, a golf resort in a valley, a pool-villa resort and a fishing resort. They suit a stay built around the bay rather than the beach.

Choose it if: You want bay views, a short drive from Phuket airport and easy access to Phang Nga Bay trips.

Skip it if: You want to walk to a beach, restaurants and shops.

Mistake to avoid: Do not expect a town-centre stay; these resorts are spread out and need a car or transfer.

Ko Yao district covers the Ko Yao islands in Phang Nga Bay near Phuket, and the two main islands are Ko Yao Yai and Ko Yao Noi. Wikipedia notes that the northern tips of the islands are part of Ao Phang Nga National Park. The resorts in this group range from a private-pool villa resort to a simple family-run bungalow on Tha Khao beach, and all are reached by boat.

Choose it if: You want an island base with bay views and do not mind a boat transfer.

Skip it if: You want nightlife or to change hotels often.

Mistake to avoid: Do not book a late flight without confirming the last boat and the pier with your hotel.

Takua Pa district lies on the Andaman Sea coast. The stays in this group are on its quieter beaches, Bang Sak and the island of Koh Kho Khao, plus one resort on Natai Beach in Thai Mueang district to the south. Khao Lak lies between them and has its own guide. This area suits travellers who want space on the beach more than choice of restaurants.

Choose it if: You want a long, quiet beach and accept fewer restaurants nearby.

Skip it if: You want a short airport transfer and lots of places to eat on foot.

Mistake to avoid: Do not assume all of these are 'Khao Lak'; Koh Kho Khao is an island further north and transfers take longer.

Khao Lak is a series of tourist villages mainly in Takua Pa district and partly in Thai Mueang district of Phang Nga. We already publish a full where-to-stay guide for it, with its own verified hotels, so this page does not repeat it. Open the Khao Lak guide if you want the province's busiest beach strip.

Choose it if: You want the most beach hotels, restaurants and Similan trip departures in one place.

Skip it if: You want an island or a bay-view stay.

Mistake to avoid: Do not compare a Koh Kho Khao villa with a Khao Lak hotel on name alone; check the map.

Day trips and planning in Phang Nga

We have no registered tour listing for Phang Nga yet, so we show no tour prices. The button opens Klook's own search for Phang Nga Bay tours, which currently earns us nothing. Park fees are set by the Department of National Parks, so check its official site.

Disclosure: we are an affiliate partner of travel booking sites, but these links currently open the providers' own sites and earn us nothing yet.

Getting to Phang Nga

Phang Nga has no airport of its own, and most trips start at Phuket International Airport. The button opens the 12Go Phuket to Phang Nga page for bus and van options; check the departure point, the journey time your hotel quotes and the luggage rules before you book. Koh Yao stays also need a boat transfer.

Affiliate disclosure: these links may earn us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we write.

Before you book

  • Open the map link for the area and then check the hotel's exact pin. A neighbourhood name can cover a wide area.
  • Check the final rate with tax, payment timing, cancellation terms and what the room includes.
  • If arriving late, confirm the check-in method and the last transport that actually runs.
  • Ao Phang Nga National Park sets its own fees and rules; check the Department of National Parks before you go and ask tour sellers whether the fee is included.
  • If you stay on Koh Yao, confirm the boat transfer time and the last boat of the day with the hotel, especially if your flight lands late.

FAQ

Where should first-time visitors stay in Phang Nga?

It depends on the trip. For a beach strip with the widest choice, Khao Lak is usually the first look, and we cover it in a separate guide. For bay views and Phang Nga Bay trips, the bay side around Takua Thung works well. For a quiet island stay, Koh Yao Noi or Koh Yao Yai.

Does Phang Nga have an airport?

No. Wikipedia notes that Phang Nga province has no airport and the nearest is Phuket International Airport. Most hotels on this page quote their transfer times from Phuket.

Is Khao Lak in Phang Nga?

Yes. Khao Lak is a group of tourist villages mainly in Takua Pa district and partly in Thai Mueang district of Phang Nga. Because we already have a full Khao Lak where-to-stay guide, this page covers the other areas.

How do I get to Koh Yao Noi or Koh Yao Yai?

By boat. Koh Yao Yai Village describes a 30-minute speedboat ride and Six Senses Yao Noi says it is 45 minutes from Phuket. Confirm the pier, the transfer and the last boat with your hotel.

Can I stay in Phang Nga town itself?

Our research did not find a town-centre hotel with a working official website, so this page lists bay-side resorts in Takua Thung, Mueang Phang Nga and Thap Put instead. Check the booking links for smaller town stays.

Which areas are closest to Phuket airport?

The bay side and Natai Beach. Bor Saen Villa says it is 40 minutes from Phuket International Airport and Sametnangshe Boutique gives 55 minutes; Koh Kho Khao villas quote about two hours.

Are any hotels closed in the rainy season?

Some are. Paradis Villa on Koh Kho Khao says it closes from 1 May to 30 September. Check each hotel's own site for opening dates.

Is Phang Nga good for families?

Several hotels here describe family-friendly features, such as villas with kitchens or baby cots, but some have limits: the Beyond Skywalk tents are for guests aged 12 and above, and Koyao describes its 9 Hornbills tented camp as best for adults. Check each card.

Do I need a national park fee for Phang Nga Bay?

Ao Phang Nga National Park is a protected marine park, and fees are set by the Department of National Parks. We do not quote a number because we could not read an official fee page; ask your tour operator and check dnp.go.th.
