Chimelong Safari Park (长隆野生动物世界) is inside the Chimelong resort south of Guangzhou. Its official site says it opened on 26 December 1997, keeps more than 500 species and over 20,000 animals, and is known for viewing free-roaming animals from a vehicle and from a cable car. The standard ticket on the official page when we checked read CNY 350, which is the "special day" price. On ordinary weekdays the standard price is CNY 300 under a 2024 notice. October 2026 hours are 9:30 to 18:00 from 7 October.

This page covers the park only. For the wider city and the border crossings from Hong Kong, see the Guangzhou and Shenzhen guide. Entry rules and payments for the whole country are on the China hub. We have not checked hotels near the resort, so see other areas on where to stay.

Prices and hours (checked 17 October 2026)

Prices are in Chinese yuan (CNY) from the park page on the Chimelong site and the day-type notice dated 28 March 2024.

As the notice defines it, "special days" are most weekends, summer and winter school holidays, Chinese public holidays and the days around them, plus some working days and busy days. Ordinary weekdays cover most working days and some weekends and school days. Check which type your date is in Chimelong's booking system.

Opening hours in October 2026: 1 to 6 October, 8:30 to 19:00; 7 to 31 October, 9:30 to 18:00. The site says hours and ride openings can change, so follow notices at the park. We have not read the hours for November onward.

Zones that are closed

The official site carries two notices: the Huaguo Mountain zone (花果山) and the 4D theatre are closed temporarily (12 September 2026), and the Panda Village zone (熊猫村) is closed temporarily (17 May 2026). We could not read the full notices, so we do not know when they reopen. If you are going mainly for the pandas, phone before you buy: the hotline on the site is 400-883-0083 (park and ticket service about 9:00 to 18:00 according to the site). The bumper cars and mini planes ride in the children's area has been out of service since December 2024, per another notice.

From Hong Kong

Chimelong says to take the high-speed train from West Kowloon to Guangzhou South, about 47 minutes, and then the metro as above. The MTR timetable we read gives 58 to 68 minutes, so the 47 minutes looks out of date (our assumption). The MTR fare chart for trains departing from 11 October 2026 lists HK$250 second class to Guangzhou South. Details and border hours are in the city guide. Chimelong also lists a cross-border bus from Hong Kong to the resort hotels as a timetable for reference. We did not check it with the bus operator.

Getting in

The official site announced that since 24 November 2020, all Chimelong resort parks admit visitors by tapping a second-generation Chinese ID card. Anyone who books must book ahead and carry the original ID used for the booking. The notice speaks to Chinese ID holders and does not say how foreign visitors use a passport, so we cannot confirm the process for foreigners. Ask the hotline or check the terms of the product before you pay.

The official booking system behind the "official booking" button is xzx.chimelong.com. We did not try a payment. Overseas intermediaries such as KKday list Safari Park tickets; the price and terms are the intermediary's own.

How long, and when to go

We have no official figure for time inside. Our suggestion is to allow a whole day if you want several zones and the cable car. We did not check show times and prices for the evening programme. Wikivoyage says October and November are Guangzhou's best months.

The official site does not say whether the cable car and small train are free. The statements we saw that they are free come from visitor comments on the site, so we do not confirm them.

Chimelong Ocean Kingdom

Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is in Hengqin, Zhuhai, according to the Hengqin section of Chimelong's park list. It is not at the Guangzhou safari park and falls outside this Guangzhou and Shenzhen package. We have not read its prices and hours.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a ticket?

The standard ticket is CNY 300 on ordinary weekdays and CNY 350 on special days, per Chimelong's notice. Child, senior and concession tickets show CNY 245 and teen tickets CNY 280 at the special-day price.

Which days are special days?

Per the notice, most weekends, school holidays, Chinese public holidays and the days around them, and busy days. Check the booking system for your date.

What time does it open?

7 to 31 October 2026, 9:30 to 18:00. The site says to follow notices at the park if times change.

How do I get there from Guangzhou South?

Per Chimelong, walk to Guangzhou South metro, take Line 7 about 10 minutes to Hanxi Changlong, then walk about 5 minutes to the free shuttle stop.

Can I enter with a passport?

The official notice we read mentions only Chinese ID cards. We have not confirmed the foreign-visitor process, so ask 400-883-0083 before you buy.

Is the panda area open?

The site has a notice that Panda Village is temporarily closed (17 May 2026). We found no reopening notice in the pages we read. Ask before you go if the pandas are the point.

How long from Hong Kong?

Chimelong says about 47 minutes on the XRL from West Kowloon to Guangzhou South. The MTR timetable we read gives 58 to 68 minutes, then about 10 minutes more on the metro.

When was this checked?

On 17 October 2026, from the Chimelong site and notices and the MTR fare chart. Prices and hours can change.

How this compares

We opened China Highlights' Guangzhou guide and Lonely Planet's Guangzhou page, and a KKday ticket listing for comparison. China Highlights and Lonely Planet mention the park only inside a city overview, without prices, hours or routes. KKday prices in its own currency with its own conditions. This page gives the official prices, the day-type notice, the closed-zone notices and the metro routes from Chimelong's own site, and it says plainly that the passport question is unconfirmed.

The ticket search box on this page opens the provider's own search page. As of 17 October 2026 we have no registered affiliate link for Chimelong tickets and earn nothing from them yet. The reference prices on this page are the ones Chimelong announces, in the table above. Our disclosure page explains how affiliate links work and what we never do.
